That on top of tight jeans, plaid shirt, boots, and a belt buckle big as a world heavyweight championship belt.

I usually like the longer hauls because I get 2-4 days I can just get up and run my shift, and I get more regular sleep. I’ve always preferred having that since I started. Of course that’s with the understanding that there will be shorter runs to reposition where there is better freight or if it’s getting close to getting home.

I have overheard a few people complain of having nothing but shorter runs but then in the same breath claim how they don’t run at night, don’t run certain states, chronically late, even one saying they needed extra time because of “needing to relax” or sone other excuse. They’ve been pretty fair with me, once in a while I’ll get a messed up run or I have to swap and do a bit of “crazy running” to save a load that another driver screwed up.

the claim they make of having an average run length of 1500 miles is correct. That doesn’t mean drivers are going to have all long runs.

I think there’s more to the story of the few complaints I’ve seen. They’re not perfect, but they’ve been decent enough for me until the day I can retire.

I think that certainly looked a hell of a lot cleaner than the “greasy track suit, dirty safety vest, permanently glued on headset with flip flops” look i see out here now.

the majority of drivers i see out here these days look like they crawled out of a dumpster. And it reflects in the less than welcome attitude from shipping/receiving clerks, truck stop cashiers, mechanics, dot cops and other people that have to deal with those filthy clowns before I’m next in line.
From what I’ve seen in the last 20 years it’s no wonder Buccees doesn’t want truckers around.

I run 3 miles from plant to DC and back in a yard goat. Every so often I have to catch an Uber to get a driver back out of hours. That's my long haul run.
I only work two days a week now so if I take a couple days of PTO I end up with two weeks off:biggrin_25523: Glad I got my OTR trucking done before covid because it sure seems to be getting worse by the year.

hope not dumb twucker Thanks this.

Well...People dress how they dress. Doesn't bother me not one bit. What I make fun of is the fact that so many drivers try to make sure they fit every single prototype of a trucker, or whatever they visualize a trucker is. "You're not a real trucker if you don't look like this......" Most of the drivers that complain about how drivers dress dont take their truck to wash but once a year if that. I don't know how a driver can complain about apparel when their truck looks like ####. To me, a clean truck is part of the appearance. Aluminum wheels shouldn't look the same as pavement.

As for Buccee's....I don't understand why truckers are so butt hurt about not being able to park at Buccee's. One glance at any of those lots and you should be able to see that it's not built for trucks to move around there. I feel like that's empty calorie anger and hurt feelings for no reason.

Shippers and receivers with bad attitudes don't come drivers who dress poorly. Their attitudes come from drivers who are overly egotistical, lack respect for whatever reason, drivers that talk down to them just because of the job they work etc. Many truckers have egos for no reason and definitely have entitlement issues. So everything that's so-called wrong with the industry is brought on by, and only truckers. Once they realize that, things MAY change.
