It's going to depend on where it fell from. There's little breathers on things like your transmission and transfer case of you have 4wd. Middle of the truck I'd still lean towards it seeping from a seam or joint in the exhaust system. Condensation building up during warmup would wash out soot from inside. The smell would give it away whatever it is

I think that nails it, condensation frozen inside the pipe, leaking out after startup from heat, to dark for engine oil, to dark for diff fluid or tranny fluid also unless there is huge problems with either

I’m guessing quite a bit like the this stuff he left in the shop a couple years ago— I use it to pack bearings on trailers and to kill mice— don’t even have to set a trap, just smear some on a popsicle stick and it kills them like the plague

My 95 leaks underneath during winter quite bad. Oil somewhere, not sure . Its pretty much everywhere. Seems the orings or seal shrink a bit and need replaced. Never was interested in finding the problem always something else to fix..
