Broken bolts. Had both snap off on my paccar level with the block took them pretty close to 6 hours to drill and extract them because the extractor they tried to use also broke off and made a bad situation even more of a PITA.

Then they are idiots. As for the bolts i was more replying to him how it could take that long. A broken bolt will do it. Otherwise its at most a 1 hour job.

Anythings a possibility, but I've put a bunch of em on those engines. Never any issues with the bolts on those.

Wait - you're in Australia - are you talking miles or kilometers here on these parts?

Eit - now I see the quoted miles - I'll just slip away here for now . . .

    Siinman and Oxbow Thank this.

Not got much experince with them persionally. Just offering the one and only way i can see a waterpump taking that long to fix. I mean i did the one on my ISX with a 5 gallon bucket and hand sockets in a TA parking lot in an hour and a half. And over an hour of that was the uber ride to international. So unless its an edge case the guys are defo morons.

My truck had the Allison 7 speed automatic transmission rebuilt around 85,000 miles. I think the newer trucks are getting worse. Had to have radiator work done a couple times for coolant leaks. Just rolled over 100,000 miles a week ago.

$1600 in Labor to change the water pump, they also insisted on doing the thermostat and new belts.

$2200 in total, I think that's the worst I have ever been ripped off

W923, Opendeckin, Siinman and 2 others Thank this.

Okay, settle down now, to be blunt, this is nothing out of the ordinary today. You happen to be in the biggest ripoff segment of our society, repair, and if you want to do this foolishness, then like my mom always said, "pay the $2 dollars". The water pump was so expensive because, the shop is covering their aXX from you bringing it back saying it overheats. Shops have been ripping people off since the Model T, the mechanics are just doing what the boss tells them to do. You have 1.2 million on that truck, that was designed to give a million tops, so if you are going to run older, presumably paid off equipment, the "man", ( or woman) wants to gain by that. Bottom line, in this business in your situation,, you can't win unless you do this stuff yourself, and these shops know full well, those are dying off, and you have no choice. If it's any consolation, it's far from over. Parts are now engineered in China to have a limited life expectancy. All those parts you mention aren't made in Pittsburg anymore, and did last longer, but no money in that. It's probably the 2nd biggest ripoff in the world, substandard replacement parts. Good luck.
