I appreciate the thoughtful response, a lot of what you said resonates with me. I used to work for myself, designing & assembling "breakout" circuit boards and various other electronics and selling them online. I was a one man show, things went well the first few years, but the Chinese manufacturers became super competitive and slowly muscled me out. Letting go of my business was an extremely difficult decision. But within 6 months of trucking I knew that made the right decision. I make more money driving than I ever did in my old gig.
As far as my financial situation, I bought my 1st house in 2011, sold it in 2018 and paid cash for my current house with the profit. All my vehicles are paid for. I could survive with a job at Taco Bell if I need to. I used to run my old business the same way, cash for equipment, inventory, shipping, everything. I'm a liquid guy. Also, in my early 40's, kids grown up, don't need to be home so much anymore.
I also worked a lot harder at my old gig with less pay. But being my own boss is priceless to me. I have heard that the industry sucks now. But I figure that I can get in cheaper, work for lower pay while I learn the industry better, find my "niche", and be better prepared to get myself in a good position when the industry starts to uptick again.
There's an expression about real estate: time IN the market is better than attempting to time the market.Opendeckin Thanks this. -

Best advice first is slow down why were you going 65 in a 60 construction zone??? That alone just makes you a target for a trooper....

yea, they do that when they are trying to justify their job and know the black robe doesn’t buy their ######## either
70k will probably be your insurance bill with that on there and 3 years exp.
I get it, I had the “pay cash or don’t buy it” drilled into my head for years, and I was nuts when I financed my new trailer, but I’m not buying anything used again unless it’s some oddball spare that I’m not going to use everyday, the money in the account can save lots of different things when things go sidewaysTrucker61016 Thanks this. -
It’s not an automatic deal breaker. Carriers look at the whole picture, not just one line on a PSP. A single work zone note with no citation and a clean MVR usually isn’t what kills an application. They care way more about patterns like multiple inspections, tickets, or crashes.
I had a warning and an inspection ding on mine a couple years back, still signed on without an issue because everything else was clean and I could explain it. Just be upfront when you apply and don’t make it sound like you’re hiding anything. Most recruiters have seen way worse.nichetransport and Trucker61016 Thank this.
