Best thing to do is don’t give the law a reason to pull you over.
And that includes a commercial vehicle.
And those of you who have been around a while know what I mean.

When I was young, I would walk into a bar or a party and see the “tough guy” in the corner. You know the guy. You lock eyes, and he starts trying to peacock turkey strut, and put bass in his voice. He thinks he’s the toughest guy in the place and I think I am. He’ll stand in that corner all night and I will stand in the opposite corner and we are thinking of a reason to run at each other like big horn sheep. Here’s the problem: We BOTH have our heads in the same place…that’s why we are banging heads. If I don’t want to bang heads with anyone, all I have to do is put my head into a different place.

Was at a strip club with another driver. Driver got drunk tried to say hello to some lesbian stripper while she’s sitting with her girlfriend. She complains to the bouncers and suddenly, this guy runs up telling my buddy to get out. My buddy got belligerent. This bouncer is hopping up and down wanting to fight. The other bouncer is cool (he’s the dangerous one). I ask the cool head to give me a moment to get my buddy out. He pulls the hopper away. I say to my buddy, “Dude, let’s go…there’s no winning this game. Even if you beat the bouncers up, the cops are going to get you and are automatically at fault and going to jail. Let’s just leave. As we were walking out, I thanked the cool headed bouncer for his help and patience.

“What does all of this have to do with cops, Six?”
    1. If you are banging heads with a cop, it’s because your heads are in the same place. The only difference is he’s recognized by the Law. If you bang heads, odds are against you winning.
    2. If a cop is looking for trouble, you can tell. If there’s a cool headed cop, use him to calm his buddy down. If there’s not a cool head in the mix, BE SILENT.

It’s amazing some of those morons haven’t had their skulls cracked for some of the stunts they’ve pulled on the highways and in the courtrooms!

Jist be glad you are innthe US. In Germany for instance they can do just about whatever they want. They can stop you with NO probable cause and walk up and blow you on the alcohol sensor, nothing else needed. Amazes me the amount of whining that goes on here when you compare us to other countries.

Because people don't know their rights. They don't stand up for their rights. They just allow themselves to be bullied into submission.

If some cop wants to search my car my first question is do you have a warrant? If not, then go get one. Otherwise I need to be on my way.

If they ask can they search my car, ABSOLUTELY NOT.

And turn on your phone to record the second you get pulled over. Keeps the ######## honest.

Great information and I agree with politely refusing consent to search. However, they may be able to detain you without arrest until receiving a warrant. This will probably make some of you mad but no one should be operating a vehicle if they are drinking, smoking weed or vaping with that type of substance. Pretty sure that's against the law and simply dangerous for everyone else.

The cops searched so many vehicles because so many people think just giving them the okay to search means they'll do a cursory search and you'll be on your way with no issues. The reality is when they get the go-ahead they tear your #### apart. It happened once when I was a teenager and they made a mess of my car and I swore never again. And if they didn't give permission it's likely a good lawyer would have anything they find tossed because cops think they have all the power and don't need any permission.

Another good example of nothing you do will help you. Is the Tennessee dozens of DUI cases coming back with zero drugs or alcohol. You can dance their dance, but if they think you're drunk they're just looking for more evidence. Nothing you can do will convince them otherwise. As soon as they ask for a field sobriety test just give up. They're not going to let you go. Better to refuse and fight it in court then to give them evidence.

Just an FYI, as much as the information is accurate in the thread, there is one thing that many need to understand.

If you are driving a truck, get pulled over for an inspection or a ticket with an inspection, this is an Administrative Action, not a criminal one.

This means that when it comes to logs and other truck-related things, you can not refuse to comply. This includes an inspection of the cab, which is a safety-related workspace.

If there is a suspicion of alcohol, this was discussed in another thread.

But they cannot enter any storage/cabinets/drawers. Only plain sight so if you close the curtains then they can't search without probable cause or a warrant.
