I’m planning on attending a job fair in ND this year, and I remember someone on here saying that’s how they got their start. But whether there’s a job fair or not, could applying in person hold an advantage over applying online or does it not matter? I’ve walked into an establishment asking to fill out an application (for a non/oilfield position) and was told to go apply on their website, so some places are different. And even if online applications are the norm, I could stay in a motel for a couple of weeks and state in my cover letter that I’ll be near enough to drive by until a certain date. It could save the trouble of having to fly in for an interview/test drive.
And yes, I’ve thoroughly read Savagemuffin’s pinned thread on this.
Applying online vs. applying in person?

Well, I was the one who insists an in-person apply was better, but you know, I may be wrong on that today. From what you say, it's clear people don't have the brains or time for an in person interview, do it on line, you never have to face that person. Tell them you don't have a computer,,
, but probably best to do what they say. I think if they are interested, they give you time to get there.

If you can apply in person. Basically go in there and sell yourself. Convince them, if they will talk to you, that you are the best choice.

One company I was hired on at corporate office, transferred, [driving one of their trucks from Louisiana to AR terminal] then that terminal manger says he was gonna interview me. Already gotten two checks from them, one without any work done.
Later I seen the TM knew nothing of tanker work. He always asked me, he didn’t know the difference of any tanks, vent wise or food grade/chemical. They were all tanks to him.
And yes, I had on my ball cap. -
Making a good impression in person is key to landing a job you really want provided you can sell yourself and be personable
Impress the interviewer to the point they want you bringing their daughter home to bangRockinChair, 201, Numb and 1 other person Thank this. -
Just make sure the interviewer isn't the bosses daughter,,

I still think it's best to start out in person, even though they're going to tell you to go online and fill out the application. Personal connections are still a thing in the oilfield, and showing up to introduce yourself, shake the man's hand, and briefly tell a little bit about yourself and your experience will help you stand out from all the other names that come across his computer screen.
