don’t have to be at a scale. A roaming one can stop you too.

Been out here going on 25 years. Like I said though. It was like a sneak attack. The first six months I was on top of the world and then came all the rate drops, playing with folks money, etc. nothing was stated verbally or contractually about paying his full insurance bill or workers comp. They began pulling money, sometimes 1000 or more randomly. Like I said as well, I know I have done financial responsibility as a lease operator but nobody’s know is paying what me or a few of my buddies are paying.

South Philly they have them every now and then but other than that DOT is kind of scarce. I’ve been pulled like 3 times in Philly in the last 10 years or so. Usually because I forgot to put on my seat belt.

In new Jersey the toll plaza are express, so you just go. My guess is it's the carrier's ez pass, and they don't auto replenish, so when the balance us too low, the turnpike authority treats the non collection of tolls as a violation.

My guess is they withhold the replenishment amount from his settlement, but don't replenish the account, then bill him for the uncollected toll violation when it's their fault it hasn't been paid.

The carrier must have liability and cargo in their name, but they can pass on the costs. Most bigger carriers don't, but I'm not surprised his does.

I replenish the account. It’s my account. The issue is that they’re his plates. So if I go through and the funds are low they tag him.

When you’re transponder doesn’t read and they bill by your plate
I know- you’re taking a breath to say “my plate # is attached to my ezpass account” however, some organizations are unwilling to link the two or see that multiple other. Agencies ALREADY HAVE and then bang you for the toll, a $50 admin surcharge, and generally a $30 surcharge for taking ezpass lane without one.
AND these mother ####ers send you an accumulated invoice 3-4 months after the fact.

One for the love for everything holy please use paragraphs and proper spacing, reading some of your posts literally hurt my head due to just a wall of text.

Find your contract you signed read it over with a fine tooth comb.

Consult with a legal representative like you should have in the first place.

To be honest it sounds like you jumped into this without any prior experience and found a predatory company who takes advantage of an individual that has no experience in this industry. I've seen it happen many times.

It sucks what you're going through but in the end you put yourself in this situation and your on here asking a forum for advice or other owner operators who you have stated haven't really been forth coming one we are truck drivers not lawyers go seek and consult with a lawyer.

Also you have mentioned several times under NJ law you think you should be considered an employee not an owner operator get out of this mindset.

If you own the title to the truck and your "lease agreement" was only for a year and that year as past and there's no fine print stating that the lease auto renews every year take yourself and your truck and go find another carrier to lease onto or look into getting your own authority but you need to start treating this as if your a business owner and get out of the employee mindset.

Again I highly suggest you read your contract you signed, consult with legal services and get yourself into a better situation.

Putting it as politely as I can, to have 20 years experience and sign this deal tells me you don't have the knowledge, skills, or temperament to run your own truck. Regardless of whether you get your own authority or lease on with a reputable carrier, you're going to continue getting screwed. You don't know enough, you're not inquisitive enough, and you're not responsible enough.

I wish you the best, but if you continue to run a business while acting like an employee you will end up broke.

Sounds like you do not understand how to run your own business. How long have you worked for this company?
