Someone please confirm that this is a legit log?

I started my work week yesterday and began today after a full 10 hour break. Do I really have 39 minutes left on my clock? How does my 14 get paused for more than 3 hours? Is this right?

Also; here’s what a violation would look like

Yes because you stopped your 14hr clock with the sleeper berth portion from 9:30am to 3pm.. now after 7hours of consecutive sleeper berth you will get your on duty time and driving time back before your 5 hour break or whatever that was. Then when u run out of that you can do a 3 hr break and get the evening portion of your time back. Keep running like that until u take a full 10 to reset it completely. Welcome to running splits. Thats a long ### day, been there done that. Can be a great way to run but it will sure wear u out after awhile

10/4 that’s not how we used to calculate a qualifying split, at least omnitracs never did.

    Appreciate the response tho

    I’m off to bed!!!

Some companies disable it in the elog. It was also a new rule back in like 2020 or something when they changed it. Before it never stopped ur 14 clock so it was hardly worth it to run splits. but now it does and works out great especially if u end up sitting for awhile waiting to get loaded/unloaded... I used to be getting my 2/3hr sleeper berth breaks in while i was tarping, or i mean "allegedly" :D

So can we run splits all week long and not get tripped up with having a proper SB period into a qualifying 34 hour reset?

Its perfectly fine to run splits however long u want. U just wont get a full clock until u do a full 10 break..it will just keep giving u ur time back that u drove before the first break u did... So u still have the full 11hr drive time in a shift just not all at once (like u would get after a 10) since u have to do a 2/3 break or a 7/8 in the middle of ur shift or at the end to recieve the other half of your time back..

one of the perks of running splits is u basically dont have to do a 30min break since ur doing the 2/3... So like if u drive 6 hrs in the morning, take a 2 hour break to get some lunch. Drive the rest of your 5 hours, take a 8 break.. after your 8 break you will get back the 6 hours u drove in the morning... Drive those 6 hrs the next morning take another 2 break get ur 5 hours from the previous evening. Do a 8 sleeper break. Rinse and repeat...never have to do a stupid 30min break since the short break will reset ur 8 clock as well. I mean trucking never works perfect like that but it sure is nice when it does.. just remember the longer break (the 7/8) has to be consecutive in sleeper for it to be legal.. the short break can be sleeper/off duty or combination. But i always kept it in sleeper on both to not have any mix ups.

i know it can be a bit a confusing but samsara does a good job of calculating it. Thats what i was running when i was doing splits all the times and i never had any problems.

And u still only have the 70hr clock for the week. If u run out of hours on that u will have to do a 34 or run recaps, regardless if ur doing splits or not..

Yep so get ready to interrupt a good rest break how ever many times it takes to get the job done driver. Once is too many but the customer and their freight is more important than your long term health. Have fun with it.

It’s a personal preference isn’t it? I see it as a way to maximize your productivity and income level regardless of who else benefits. As long as I’m not being told to split, it’s a great option to have if you want it.

I used to do a lot of splits and made a but ton of pennies but, I never worked more than a 17 hour shift.

Here I am now, unintentionally, working a 19 hour shift. Are green horns really out here working 20 hour days because a tattle tell says they can? I’m sure at some point… I’m going to pause here…

    I need coffee lol.

It’s kinda like saying legally you can run 14 hours a day. Drive wise.
Start midnight full hours drive 11, bed for 10, jump up drive the remaining 3 to be midnight again, keep running til you’re out of time. Most don’t. You’ll wear down, and they’ll expect it more and more. Most start 3-4 am finish early to find parking unless going to an area they know and know a spot/ can park at shipper or receiver.

Yep. Dont listen to the naysayers. Running splits is a great way to make things more flexible and benefit you in the bank account. You will outperform everybody in your company by a longshot.
