All I’m finding on the internet is series 2-4, “low pressure” oil pumps. Gear is helical cut but I’m certain, the original style oil pumps used on the series 1, were high pressure, similar or the same as the small cam. I’ve built this engine back to original CPL 393 but can only assume this is the original oil pump. Should I look for the original, high pressure pump or go with the low pressure pump? Would any of y’all happen to have a part number for the high pressure pump, with helical cut gear?

N-14’s , I was told when I had one, were described as a
“Low pressure, high volume “ oil system.
Is the 400 the model before the N-14?
@OLDSKOOLERnWV , @wore out .BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
They dropped the pressure with the BIG CAM 3. Oil pan, cooler, regulators and such all changed at the same time. I always put them back like they came unless I was using an older block to replace a 3 or 4 and then it had the entire updated oil system.
Those old regulars and by pass valves in the cooler are not going to work properly at 35 PSI.mile marker 27, OLDSKOOLERnWV, blairandgretchen and 2 others Thank this. -
You don’t want the old style high pressure pump…!
They did away with it for a reason.
Which oil pan you have, cast aluminum or stamped steel??mile marker 27, blairandgretchen, Diesel Dave and 2 others Thank this. -
4 models before I thank.mile marker 27 and blairandgretchen Thank this.

He has done those things so listen to him. He is still running one!beastr123, mile marker 27, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 2 others Thank this.

Yeah, it’s a series 1. It’s a 1978 production engine.Big Road Skateboard and blairandgretchen Thank this.

Cast aluminum.

They lowered the oil pressure on these engines due to “bearing wash”. The later models run at 40 psi and idle at 20 psi.
As far as helical gear teeth, even the early N-14’s had helical teeth, I own one. So all the pumps including the early N14 will work with matching components.
With the cast aluminum pan you should have a large suction hose from the pump along the outside of the pan to the pick up at the bottom of the sump. If memory serves me correctly you can unbolt the fitting on the pump “2 bolts” to allow the suction hose to hook up to the pump.
I use lubriplate No:105 to fill the cavity of the pump around the gears, will help the pump pick up the oil quicker…..

Got plenty of the 105. Here’s a pic of it before I tore into it. The pan, suction hose and pump, can somewhat be seen.
