I hear ya...I went O/op because in 2 years financially I can "semi" retire at 55.
Went down I-77 through WV and Fancy Gap last night in the snow. Fully loaded Tanker at 79K lbs.
It's like guys forgot how to drive in the snow, or use the Jake Brakes.
Guys doing 35MPH with the flashers on.

Buddy of mine retired about 18 months ago, but he still hasn't sold the truck or trailer. I think that might be the hardest decision for him - once he sees it go down the driveway he'll know that's it for the O/O world.
I told him that I've noticed he's actually been a lot happier than I've seen him in a long while. He volunteers at a local church based food bank, acts as security at his church, and has sunk himself into gardening and pottering about. His back yard looks like a Sanford and Sons yard most of the time, he doesn't complain because he knows there's always something to tinker with.
Financially he probably could have retired 5-10 years ago. He mentioned at this rate he'll probably die with more money than he has now.
His wife is hanging up the keys end of this year.
Glad to hear that you made that decision, stick around here with the rest of the armchair cowboys and harass us slightly younger idiots in your spare time.
Feedman, Rideandrepair, Opendeckin and 6 others Thank this. -
I've thought about it, been asked when I was going to retire. I don't think I am. My health is good. I enjoy going to my truck and hearing that Cat purr.I working towards yr 46 now.
I think I'd be bored at home for too long.Rideandrepair, Carpenter Scotty, Chinatown and 5 others Thank this. -
Waikiki Week.Staying at a hotel down close to Diamondhead. Its really nice down at this end, quiet.Peaceful now but kids and grandkids will arrive tonight,so that will liven things up.Rideandrepair, Brandonpdx, Old_n_gray and 4 others Thank this. -
I retired 18 yrs ago. Don't really miss it . I did do a season for a farmer in Ky. hauling soy. Kinda' funny, I had given up my CDL but was informed you don't need one to haul farm equipment with-in 100 mi. I live right on the I-10 so I see plenty of truck traffic and there's a Flying "J" just across the interstate. ( if I want to smell diesel fumes !)
nikmirbre, Rideandrepair, Diesel Dave and 3 others Thank this.
