yeah. My insurance is 25 years old minimum, 2 years experience.
I want at least 1 year winter driving experience, that way I know they survived and know if it’s bad, stop driving.

For some reasons newbies think a sassy attitude or stubbornness is the only thing required to get what they want. Even if you have the money and time to start your own trucking company, you still need cooperation from insurance companies, customers, FMCSA, etc.

Just deciding that you want to do this job isn't enough. It's important but it's not enough. The insurance company gets a vote. In many ways they have the primary vote for some things. It's good you overcame challenges and you have your license, but if the insurance company isn't satisfied then none of us or you will be driving a big commercial vehicle on public roads. You being satisfied you can do the job IS NOT as important as the insurance company being satisfied you can do the job or meet their requirements. If you have to wait until you have had a DL or CDL in the US for 12 months then there is no way around it for a civilian job.

Also, many people think if they get hired by the company their friend or relative who works at the company can train them. Maybe yes and maybe no. There are insurance company requirements for that also. It may be the trainer must have X amount of experience AND X amount of employment at the company before they can train a newbie. Whatever the rules are they must be met. It's easy for people on one side of the equation to decide all of the rules of people on the other side can be set aside or adjusted to their liking. Many times they cannot be adjusted. Part of life is living with the decision of others. Part of this job is working inside the rules of the industry and company.

Hoss I hope I am not coming off as stubborn or having an attitude, secondly, the company aforementioned, knew about my lack of experience, let alone no CDL, hence them paying for me to go to Trucking School(as far as I knew), my mom was the one who helped talk me into it, even telling her boss about me and what have you, and I even talked to the boss who said my mom would be driving with me and training me. Again, I just came here for advice, I have never been in the industry to know how it works, if I had known, I would of waited til I got a car and drove much longer before I tried it. Anyway, no matter what happens, I am not going to give up, whether I find a job and become super lucky/successful or if I have to wait a little while longer and then retry, I am open to either or hoss, I just hoped for some good advice and to hopefully know what to look forward to in the future, sorry if I came off any type of way, I am just inexperienced and have I never tried to pretend I knew anything, but if I came off some type of way, I'm sorry- I've been told that sometimes the way I talk or my responses to stuff come off wrong even though said person understands what I mean / say I just come off the wrong way.

If Western will hire you, take the job. You gotta get experience. You can't be "chickening out" because of snow or other craziness. Whether a company is good or bad is dependent on, and only the driver. I started there in 2010, and it was the same thing back then. I paid it no attention. I did fine there. If they hire you, go to the flatbed side. New license and a preventable already......you won't have that many options. You wait any longer, you'll be having to do a refresher course, or maybe even start all over.

Dude, OMG I don't want to read a novel. Keep things simple.

Here is what I am going to tell you what I told my own kids, if you want challenges, go into the military, start a business, or learn a skill trade.

If you want to grow up, start when you are 16 by taking on responsibilities.

Don't overthink crap; learn from others ---> positive and negative opinions and experiences count, if you can't decipher them, learn how to.

No matter what, you will make mistakes, and the best ones do not involve others' safety or affect their lives.

Own up to the mistakes, right from the start.

    Truck driving isn't for everyone.

This isn't the 1970s, when you could get into a truck and drive to make money without experience.

Today is amazingly complicated and amazingly dangerous.

Today is one of litigation around every turn.

Without at least a couple of years of driving outside the truck, you are even more dangerous in a truck to everyone around you. I don't care about you getting hurt or killed; I care about the family in the minivan that you are a threat to.
