Recently got my medical card renewed. Unfortunately when I asked about getting it transmitted to FMCSA with that new law, all the doctors office people would tell me they can’t transmit it to DMV anymore. When I brought up the new regulation they flatly knew nothing and refused to answer. This is a doctor’s office that I have dealt with for many years and never had a problem with this until now.
I checked on NYDMV and FMCSA sites and there is nothing on what to do to if an office is unable to transmit the physical report. Calling them got me nowhere.
This whole “self certification” requirement has been a joke just like that godforsaken joke of an agency.
DOT physical certification.

Is that even an option now with the updated regs? I always emailed mine to the DMV but this last go around the docs office handled it.Rideandrepair, Diesel Dave and tscottme Thank this.

Exactly what I been doing since 2015 after a mere glitch got my cdl demoted…. Dr. forgot to sign the line where his license expires…..Diesel Dave and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
So what happens is the Doctors office loses it, or emails it incorrectly? Do they send you a receipt or copy that DMV relieved it ? Then your out across the country and get pulled it for inspection and they tell you your medical is expired, and you try to explain that your drs office handle it. Anyways, here in California, it’s the drivers responsibility to get it file at DMV. Best insurance one could have. Like I mentioned, I always walk mine in and get the confirmation printed on the spot.

I get a full paper copy of it like before. Not sure if they are emailing it or submitting it to some sort of portal honestly.
The NRII rule was published in 2015 however compliance was not enforced until July 2025 apparently.

Something disappointing though-

I could see the the fraud going on, heck, back in the day one would just get the medical card itself and fill it out and sign it, I remember one guy doing just that, and when he had to show it to a LEO, the LEO told him to next time don’t forget to sign “M.D.”(medical doctor) after your signature
. Anyways, here in California, as far as I know, they want you to walk in your own form. I can’t speak for other states.

Unfortunately here in NY they just started going with that registry last month and it’s a mess. DMV won’t accept copies and the dr’s office staff was clueless. I basically argued until I was blue in the face with them. Finally they told me the doctor will send it in tomorrow morning since he wasn’t in today.
I’d love nothing more than to find the clowns at that agency that couldnt just leave it alone and let all the states continue accepting the forms until they had the whole thing ready to go nationwide.
