I have an ISX 15 CM871, last week the starter went out. Had it replaced, while the dealer had it they called me and said it would crank but not start after they replaced the starter. Before the starter went out, it would fire up easy. So they did a diag, cleaned sensors etc. Ticket shows from insite engine state not changing from stopped to cranking. They sprayed ether in, fired. Insite shows engine state changed and synchronization. Said I was good to go.
So the next morning, the truck would turn over, but not fire. I tried priming 4 times, still nothing. Hit it with a small shot of ether, fired up. About an hour into the drive, got fuel shut truck off. Fired right back up. Went on about the day. The next morning same thing, no fire without a small shot.
So now the only way this truck will fire after sitting over night (or more than 4 hours or so) is a small shot of ether.
The lift pump comes on and I can hear it. Have fuel squirting out of the port on top of the gear fuel pump, but still no fire after sitting without a shot.
Any Ideas? Bad gear pump? Check Valve?

Fuel shutoff fixing to give up completely

Okay, thank you for responding. What symptoms does this usually give? Once truck fires with a small shot in the AM runs fine all day and will restart if done within an hour or two of shutdown.

If Insite truly does not show it change from stopped to cranking, it needs the ecm flashed or replaced. I have ran into that before and flashed the ecm to fix it. Once flashed, as soon as you crank it, insite shows cranking and it fires up.
blairandgretchen and Stay Puft Thank this. -
My brothers Caskadia looses prime and has to be pumped up before it will crank in the mornings. The crazy thing is it didn't do it until he put an o-ring on a leaking injector.

Has he found the issue or a fix? Pretty much my issue. Once it fires 1st thing in the am, runs grear all day and can be shut down and restarted within an hour or two. -
Okay thank you!blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Read @pushbroom 's post one more time . . .
I'll put $10 on him being correct.
The only time I had that issue was with a '95 S60, kept it running after ether, and replaced cam sensor - no issue since.pushbroom Thanks this. -
Okay, ill try that. After the 1st fire with a shot im the am, truck will run fine and can get shut off and fired back up no issues within a few hours?
Only need ether after sitting a few hours? Could the sensor still be the issue?blairandgretchen Thanks this.
