As of last week, I gave up on trying to deal with all the extra B.S. at Shaffer and moved to Crete(same company, just dry freght instead of reefer). The extra .02 cpm simply isn't worth it. I have worked for several refrigerated companies over the years, none of which were as frustrating as working for Shaffer. Shaffer has customers they call Hyper care loads where they keep a closer eye on you and if the cubicle dwellers in Lincoln even suspect you aren't gonna make an on time delivery, the call (day or night) to question your ability to make it on time. Even when the shipper loads you late, and tightens the schedule, they freak out if their calculations do show an OTD (even if your load planning skills tell you that you can, and you have kept Lincoln up to speed on your progress). Not to mention their new fuel solution for the reefer, which they don't force compliance yet, but eventually will. Plus, having to find a washout when they deliver to the middle of nowhere (for some reason, a lot of the freight that they haul to these places seem to be the messiest, the loads that are close enough to a company washout usually only need a quick blowout with a leaf blower). Along with that, I was seeing more and more 8-10 hour unloads, not the once in a while level that is the trucking normal, I'm talking at least one every 7-10 days. And the increase in meat plant loads was increasing as well. Not to mention all the "problem child" customers they attract. I threw in ths towel and moved over. So, even after all the times I have mentioned I didn't like pulling a dry box, I moved over (or back over since I originally started working for Crete a couple decades ago, until the International Maxxfarce drove me away). So now I am back on the dry side.
