I went 16 years without a drink until I thought I'd try an Odouls. 2 years later I stopped drinking again after spending too much time and money in saloons not to speak of the physical effects on me.
Its been 23 years now since my last drink with my new wife and more money and not having to worry what I did or said last night.
I'm still only.1 drink away from pissing it all away again.
The journey begins - purchased a truck.

I agree with everything you said except part of your first sentence. I realize many Data Centers are AI specific but Data Centers are built to support the technological world we live in (the forum we are currently communicating on) is a benefactor. Who would have thought 30 years ago we would be doing the things we do now on a laptop or phone? Anything related to your phone or computer benefits also from data centers and they definitely are building those because they do need the space.
The last news story I watched on them changed my opinion about them because of the noise that comes from them is audible for miles. I don’t want them anywhere near my home and feel like they need to be in heavy industrial areas that aren’t near people’s homes. I assume they are building them out in the country because of the cheaper land. I feel for people who are near them but when you don’t have zoning regulations it can work for you and against you as well.Last edited: Mar 30, 2026

This forum is kinda like the 1980's Honda in regard to technology - it works just fine for us dumb truck drivers because it's all we need. We've all been pretty much internet based in most areas of our lives for the last 10-15 years, for example, just in the Landstar world -
- Bank settlements only, no paper checks mailed (feee)
- Load offers/availability - web or app based (fee)
- Paperwork for billing, no mail - app based (fee)
- IFTA reports, no mail - PDF.
So I don't use it if I can help it. I turned it off in the settings on everything that I use that usually get shoved down my throat, or from apathy I simply click 'Agree' to, in order to achieve the task at hand.
So I tend to think we , or at least I - don't need it. But it still marches along.4mer trucker, cke, High Stepper and 8 others Thank this. -
I can relate to how the Information Superhighway needs to be larger every day. I feel it’s very similar to how the Interstate Highways that I travelled on in 1987 when I first started driving a big truck generally don’t look the same today. If they do look the same they are often gridlocked.
I thought I was big time when I got a pager. I still had to stop at a pay phone to call the person back. Good luck finding a payphone now!cke, High Stepper, Blu_Ogre and 8 others Thank this. -

Unfortunately for you, it has been around way longer than you think. Almost every thing that is electronics have some kind of AI in it. You are just now learning about it because it is coming to everyday people now.
Just remember at one point in time we did not want home computers in homes either. Computers have ruined a lot no doubt about it but has also made life a lot better in other areas. Some of these Data centers will be good for us as well, can sale back extra electric to the grid and make energy cheaper in the long run.
I am for them but understand how they will be a pain in some areas as well. I still to this day hate regulations that are for zoning but understand it as well. I can't park my truck at home because of it but have plenty of room to park it and not bother anyone.cke, blairandgretchen and Feedman Thank this. -
Loaded with a couple in Georgia today that I had met (and from the photo date) 10 years and 10 days ago loading in Nevada. Truck still looks immaculate, Cat under the hood on its 2nd inframe. 2004 year.
Yes, he does all the polishing himself. Yes, that's a polished aluminum trailer. His wife keeps the interior cleaned up, he gets the exterior. They live in ND.
With what I now know about polishing aluminum, and keeping trucks clean, I have an appreciation for his attention to detail.

It’s getting kind of crazy with the online and AI. This forum and a few others is all that exist. Most have moved onto Facebook and it sucks in a way. I prefer this type of communication.
‘When I went back to aviation the company I worked for everything was done online, interview, benefits sign up, direct deposit (which I like) etc. I had written a lot of resumes on my own in the past and I enlisted my then 30 year old Daughter to help because the key words the computer searches for now etc. lolol we set at a coffee shop and cranked one out and after three or four online and phone interview I was hired. Took weeks to get an offer.
Fast forward to my current job it is night and day. Multi billionaire privately owned company, Resume read by a human, interview by the owner and CEO in his office, offer letter written and handed to me personally before I left the building. Three days in a sweet hotel with a rental car, a fishing trip, treated like a human being. The kicker is everything in this company is done the old school way. Paper checks, old school expense reports. Owner hands you your bonus check at the end of the year. The home office has a total of 7 employees. It is a small circle/ it is so weird to go from being a number is a giant company to everyone knowing what you had for dinner. But I am enjoying the job. Hopefully it takes me to retirement to live in the sticks somewhere and be gone before the robots take over.Opendeckin, Feedman, Rideandrepair and 8 others Thank this. -
