Title: Four Truck Drivers Sentenced in Logbook Falsification Case
Date: November 14, 2006
Type: Investigation
Summary: On November 14, four former drivers for Nijjar Brothers Trucking, Inc. were sentenced to varying jail terms by a U.S. District Court judge in Fresno, CA on charges of making false statements. The four men had all previously pleaded guilty to keeping false driver's log books while employed as truck drivers for the Madera, CA-based trucking company. Greg Allen Mello was sentenced to 15 months in prison. Pedro Farias-Lopez and Muhammad Arshid Chaudhry each received a three month jail sentence. Baljinder Singh was sentenced to 135 days imprisonment. Each driver was also ordered to pay a $100 fine and serve 24 months supervised release. Nine other drivers for Nijjar previously pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
Separate criminal charges are pending against Baljinder Singh in Arizona for the September 30, 2003, death of a man and his 13-year-old son in a collision with Singh's truck. Singh allegedly had been driving for at least 19 hours without rest. Six other people were injured in the four vehicle crash. OIG investigated the criminal case with assistance from FMCSA and the California Highway Patrol

Wow, what a great outfit. And you thought Swift was bad.

19 hours of driving without rest!? Unbelievable! What a tragedy. A senseless death of a young child and his father. I'm sure the continued federal inquiry will probably discover additional violations. It would amaze me if the company hasn't already filed for Chapter 11?
-
I looked them up. As of 1/12/05, the FMCSA suspended their authority and they have not been allowed to operate trucks since that date. That's interesting in and of itself. I've never seen a company listed that long under suspension and not purged from the site. They apparently have brokerage authority, and may be moving freight on outside trucks.

Yes this is old, but for the new drivers, perhaps they could learn something. These companies do and will try to push you.
It is YOUR responsibility, and your CDL......
Last old bump..........
for now. -
Funny, I swear I've seen the Singh name with the eagle emblem on trucks lately or up till August along 40 and into CA with as you guess wth"middle eastern looking drivers" But then again it's a popular middle eastern name.

I used to work for Gunthers in the early 80's and if you werent working 3 books you weren't working ...Mark Gunther went to jail and im glade those days are over...

ok, this is very true, and just yesterday morning, coming south on 81 from pa to ga, i had just enterd Va, and a driver got on the CB and started saying how STUPID the 4 wheelers were for being out in the bad weather... conditions: snowy, windy, icy, low visabilty, around 430am.
traffic moving slow, but when a super trucker passed on by, we were driving blind...
ok, back to my point.... he went on to say that they have no reasson to be out in these conditions... true? prob. but he was saying they cant be going to work cause of the weather,,, it wasnt THAT bad..iv seen worst, but have seen better... anyway, he was calling them all stupid.... now, i got on and asked him what the difference is between the 4wheelers going to work, and us hauling our goods... he said they had the choice to stay home... which im sure he is right, but i said to him " you, as a driver of the truck, also HAVE THE CHOICE to SHUT DOWN THE TRUCK... he came back at me with " I cant, I HAVE to keep going.. bills dont get paid while im sitting drivers! " he is right... but wouldnt it be the same as the 4 wheelrs staying home? if they are not in the office, they are not making money, and not paying the bills.... he argued with me..AANNDD the other driver listening in on our convo... i told him that if thats the attitude he has to please stay away from my truck in this weather, cause with his disp pushing him to run, and him not having the brains to tell them NO, that i didnt want him to be near me... i guess its drivers such as him that make the rest of us suffer... -
