I turned in my truck to FCC at the first of the year. A combination of FCC, the general industry as a whole, and my own health played into all of it. The main reason I came into this industry was because I love driving and i wanted to see the country. Well I've pretty much seen all I'm going to see in 4.5 years. I have no regrets on quitting the industry cold turkey. My CDL expires next year and I'm planning on just getting a regular driver's license.

While I understand your reasoning for leaving, you may want to reconsider dropping your CDL, you never know what the future holds and it's always good to have options.

You live in small town Kansas. I wouldn’t be so eager to get rid of your CDL. The health is on you, and the leasing was also on you. This industry owes you nothing, and it’s what you make of it.

He’ll get tired of the grocery store stocking bs that he’s doing now. Salina isn’t really a great place to live job wise.

Nickel's worth of free advice: Keep your CDL. You never know when you might decide otherwise. I let mine expire back in 2015 after having it since 1991. Still kicking myself for it too. My reasoning was paying for a physical every 2 years and to renew the license, which at the time spending that money didn't make much sense since I was working in a factory and not using the CDL, seemed like a waste of money to me. Wish I would have just sucked it up and renewed it because there are days now I think about going back to driving. I could start over and get back into a school but, would cost me $5500 vs. about $2000 for a refresher course if I still had it. Final decision is of course up to you but something to consider.

That’s my way of thinking to. He works for Dillon’s in Salina. Probably get a job with them driving back and forth to Hutchinson and make more than he did with FCC and the lease bs.

Sons Hero, JohnBoy, bzinger and 4 others Thank this.
