I never heard of this. Of course I am new to the trucking world, but I found this interesting. Have any of you experienced this?

There's another thread going about this topic, and I posted this over there:
So it isn't like chameleon carriers just happened. That is a regular practice so much more than anybody ever knew. Its just the first time it's been on a platform like 60 Minutes. I'm not so sure the topic of chameleon carriers would have ever been brought up if there weren't foreign owned and operated companies. Many small, cheap low quality American companies have been doing this for years. Matter of fact, I came across a guy that changed his name and numbers when one of his drivers had a bad accident.
It's hard to for me to feel sorry for some of these drivers getting scammed out of their cash. I don't know how they can think that they can operate a business with no capital. No driver that has capital and understands the industry would even consider leasing a truck with Super Ego. By the way, why is Super Ego being singled for the way their lease is? How many companies were scamming drivers with lease purchase before Super Ego came about? Don't get it twisted, I don't support these practices of Super Ego, but I'm not going to act like what they're doing is something brand new.
Now these folks want to do something about a problem that was created by the United States..... they make it to easy for people to get authority and the gentleman in the video who made the "front door" comment was spot on. You gotta get ahead of these practices. If Super Ego is in a class action lawsuit, then in my opinion, the US Government should be included as well because their regulations and qualifications, or lack thereof, is the reason Super Ego exists.chimbotano, RhodeGuy762, Thrasher28 and 3 others Thank this. -
Thanks for sharing! I just posted about this, didn't see your post until now.RhodeGuy762 Thanks this.

Absolutely. I remember when that bad wreck in TX happened last year or the year before with the Amazon Prime contractor and a bare minimum amount of digging revealed that the carrier was linked to a handful of other carriers that all had closed down and reopened under new names.
There’s essentially zero effort by the government to try and stop the practice, and they should be held at least partly liable when the inevitable tragedies happen by allowing itGearjammin' Penguin, bryan21384 and RhodeGuy762 Thank this. -
I’m glad they’re finally shedding a bit of light on the issue to the general public. I know it’s fun making jokes about the mega carriers and newbies, but I don’t worry about Swift plowing down a family of 4 from running 20 hours straight like I do with the shady chameleon carriers

Thank you for sharing. I'm glad that it's finally being covered by a major news outlets. The segment brings the shady ordeal to light. I know a man who worked for a Serbian carrier that reset his clock to have the poor guy running 18 hour days. He was a SAP driver w/ a horrible employment history, so they paid him a lil of nothing @Thrasher28

Totally agree. The attention that's been given to foreign drivers is the only reason this came up. It's been going on before the obsession with foreigners began. I remember this guy down in Memphis who owned a small company, 2 or 3 trucks. He wanted me to work for him at the the time. We got to talking, and he told me about a driver he had hired. Dude got in a wreck somewhere in Florida. Killed off the old name and swapped it out. Helps to get loads with these brokers, especially the bigger name brokers. As for the insurance, perhaps that's helpful there too, I can't really say. Without that clean record, it's basically impossible to operate in the spot market. It's a system that definitely got created by the United States and the lack of oversight and smaller government exacerbated the problem.Thrasher28 Thanks this.

Old news. There's so many companies like Bison to own companies in the USA or Swift with Companies in Canada. That won't stop.
RhodeGuy762 and bryan21384 Thank this. -
Isn't it hard to say this has been going on for years and years, but then try to put part of the blame on "smaller government"?
Roger said the same thing, partly blaming the downsizing of the FMCSA last year.
Nothing much changed, just now we're getting about the same results for cheaper?RhodeGuy762 and wichris Thank this. -
About time these companies like super ego and their ilk were exposed.
RhodeGuy762 Thanks this.
