as much as people think that autonomous vehicles are coming in full force. They still have a ways to go to perfect that technology for them to make any kind of significant debt in either the trucking or the regular cars

Perhaps seven years ago, I was at the little Pilot at I-88 where it meets the Thruway. The manager was out there mid afternoon adding two Prime Parking spots. Several of us argued with her as to the ethics involved in those slots suddenly becoming paid slots while occupied. She shrugged her shoulders and said it wasn’t her call.

Asking me if I miss truck stops is like asking a dental patient if they miss that abscessed molar that was just removed from their mouth.

Part of me sort of like paid spots. Only because it nearly guarantees I have a spot somewhere around 6pm or later

I utilize them as needed too, especially in notoriously limited parking areas. The part I hated about yesterday is, they waited until the afternoon (almost check in time) to dedicate spots already occupied, as paid spots. The reserved spots in this particular Peelot were in the far back corner, now they're up front, but they didn't go spray anything over the old "reserved" pavement markings, so it looks like both are reserved.

On my way to Menomonie. I have all of 1.5 hours to spare on my 70 to get this delivered this morning. One nice thing about this load, it's under 8k lbs, so I am pulling the hills like I am empty and, until yesterday's wind between Indy and Gary, I was getting almost 9 mpg, which allowed me to completely skip the middle "partial fill" on my fuel solution. Indiana is still above $6 for diesel (pump price - who knows what our price is). Mother nature needs her meds adjusted (she is bipolar, you know). It got cool enough last night, I almost had to turn on the bunk heater...almost, but not quite.

Sometimes a paid spot is still not a sure thing or guarantee. How many times do you hear of a driver arriving at a truck stop and all paid spots are taken and the personnel will not approach any truck to enforce who has paid or not. I don't blame them either as you don't want some clown going "postal" on you.

Lately it seems that most paid spots are taken by drivers that don’t pay and nothing ever comes of it.
