I got a dashcam for my wife's car that taps directly into the power system up by the mirror. It has a replacement cover so it blends in and looks OEM. Sure enough, two months after I got it for her and had it all installed my wife got into a near head-on collision and totaled the car. She got kinda banged up but both my little kids in the back were ok. She was found not at fault and is doing better now, but for legal reasons, I am glad we caught it all on camera. I am annoyed that my insurance carrier doesn't offer a discount for running a dashcam.

I witnessed a fatal accident a day before Thanksgiving last year. Involved a rollover and driver was ejected. I was able to forward the footage to the investigating officials so they could see exactly how it happened. These cameras definitely can do a lot of good.plynnjr92, McUzi, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this.

I don't usually post this stuff because by the time I get home, I'm over it. But this one keeps eating at me, so . . .
Monday sucked. Everything that could go wrong did, often in two different ways at the same time. At least that's what it felt like. Ended up burning my extension and by the time I got to the yard I was exhausted. I can run a full 14 hour day with no problem, but once I cross that 14th hour my skills deteriorate fast. Which meant breaking my set took forever because I kept double checking myself. My tail trailer went into a door directly across from the shop, so I just pulled up and chucked the keys at the first mechanic I saw. I completely forgot my dolly was still in the break down area. By the time I was done, my ten hour break wouldn't be completed until 5 minutes after my show time. I was there so late that I met the line haul manager in the parking lot. I told him that if there weren't enough extra board runs that night I would happily stay home. At the very start of the call block this nobbit calls me. Not to tell me I could stay home, but to inform me my hazmat was expiring in two months. There are many reasons why that irritated me. First, he could have just put a note in my box. Or if he didn't think I'd see it, on my handheld/paperwork. Or he could have texted. That would have been easy to read, ignore, roll over and go back to sleep for 2.5 more hours. But the biggest reason this phone call pissed me off is we had discussed my hazmat expiring LAST WEEK and I put my expense form for the background check in his box when I got to work on Monday. I swear, a goldfish with CTE has a better memory than this nobbit. I sleep fitfully for a while longer before grumping my way into work.
I get there about 5 minutes before my show time, aka 10 minutes before my break is up. As I'm waiting for the clock to tick over I inform the night clerk that I'm definitely going to miss gate because I was going to need to fuel before leaving. She asks "Why didn't you fuel in the morning when I got back?". I took a second to force myself to believe that my grumpiness was hearing a tone that wasn't intended, and responded that I was too tired that morning and didn't think to fuel before putting the truck in the shop. She responded with something about planning ahead and needing to start my day earlier if I need to fuel. This took me aback because I still wasn't inside the HOS, and my response was "Time is immutable", my tone was superior and snide. She asked what the frick that meant, and I explained that I could have fueled that morning, but it would have pushed the start of my DOT break back by 15 minutes, so we could be having this conversation in 10 minutes and I would still be missing gate. She gave me a non apology of "You should have told me you got in so late". My contemptuous response of "that's not my job" may have crossed a line, but if two different managers didn't communicate it, the COMPUTER WARNING HER my break was past the show time should have made her think. Beyond that we've been having problems with this hub for MONTHS. Last out (read me, low man on the totem pole) is constantly getting in just under the 14, and if there's weather using the extension. By this point she should be assuming "the hub screwed him" and not "dumb driver".hotrod1653, MACK E-6, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this. -
One of the things I love about OD is I don't have to talk to anybody when I come in or get back. If my freight is ready I can leave whenever I want and If I get out late nothing is said. They leave me alone and that's the way I like it.hotrod1653, plynnjr92, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this.

That is how my run is. The 1900 start time is locked in but everything else after that is self dispatch.Gomer1969 Thanks this.
