Lumper fees don't come out of the trucking company's pocket on most contract freight. It's built into the contract, and for every dollar they don't have to pay to get something unloaded, it's more profit for them.

Shippers ship their product in the way that suits them best and usually it’s not what suits the final customer. If the shipper packaged every load the way the receiver wanted it it would cost them way more than eating the lumper charges.

Good god almighty. In the end, it’s the consumer who will pay the price.

The biggest lumper tomfoolery I’ve ever had was in my LTL days in St. Louis. I brought Christmas candy to the Schnucks warehouse. I got there at 7:30 am on a Tuesday, bobtailed back to the terminal at 5 and went home. The next day I bobtailed back up there and waited until almost 4 in the afternoon. 26 pallets made something stupid like 700+. I didn’t see the lumper fee, but I’m sure they stuck it to em. Capstone at its finest!

Yeah I've been there a couple of times. Only good thing about that place is overnight parking.

I hate going to Florida when its not a holiday weekend! Deliver near Orlando tonight. Told my a/m when I accepted the load i want something out right away as parking is nonexistent. Get a shag run Sunday backed up by a load that isnt ready until Tuesday. At that point might as well deadhead me to Chicago. Rejected both as unproductive. Will see what they say.
