Something else to consider: if you don't have any endorsements -- you will blend right in with the rest of the similar new drivers in that stack of "please hire me" applications.

Meanwhile -- those new drivers with hazmat, doubles/triples...& tanker endorsements...stand out from the rest of the new herd, becuz:

• those endorsements demonstrate that they are serious (not that you aren't) -- & they mean business
• the hazmat endorsement is also another background check -- so those drivers have thus already been vetted by the gubmint

Thus -- those endorsements are A GREAT WAY to go to (at least) the top half of the "hire" pile.

No cdl school, but does hire new cdl holders in certain situations. No mass hiring these days though.

 

Avoid Knight and all companies they control. They really blow now a days. Misery waiting to happen.

I read the initial post and just skimmed through the replies. And while I can't help the young driver with any companies to try, I do offer an observation.
In the initial post, he stated "I just got my CDL's". I see this as a large legal problem. As far as I know, each driver is allowed one ( 1 ), and only one, CDL. If I were looking for a driver, finding one with multiple licenses would go straight to the no hire list. I don't know how a person could even get more than one. Legally.

I did like a day and a half With a local trainer. Not much help there.
Good thing I was experienced, just hadn’t did recent tank experience si they do 1 week classroom tank/out loading/unloading one then next week 1.5 days then go back to Houston to get truck.

 

Just start with Western Express. They hire fast and easy. I started there for that reason. All the bad things you hear about them are true, but who cares. They have several thousand trucks and tons of freight. Once you get 3 months experience get the heck out and find something else. You'll also give yourself 3 months of time to look for something you want, while the experience clock is ticking. Also one reason I am very glad that I started with Western expresses is because I got to see exactly how bad trucking can truly be. And now I appreciate my current job, a whole heck of a lot more. Trucking jobs are like dating. No one wants you until someone has you. Then everyone wants you. Once you get one, the next one is way easier.
