Landstar BCO here. Fuel surcharges have been absorbing most or all of the high diesel cost so far from my recent experience. Any other BCOs care to chime in?
Anyone else grateful for the fuel surcharges?

I don’t view it as a separate item in my figuring.
Do take note that the fuel discount stops at $850 on the pump - check your Comdata ‘detail summary’ - and you’ll see. -
Fuel surcharge is a concept for a way to pay the difference in fuel cost for a load that is calculated from a base fuel cost and average MPG.
As I recall from ancient history most are based on About 6 mpg for the truck as a generic average, average MPG is one of those things negotiated at the freight contract, along with the base fuel cost. If you do less than the "average MPG " The FSC will not be sufficient. Better than "average MPG" = more profit.
FSC is a way to make it so simple even the office monkeys can figure it out. -
I’ve been making out like a fat rat the way our fuel surcharge is paid. The company I haul for pays it by the ton. With fuel between 6 and 6.50 it’s 3 bucks a ton. The run I’ve been on the last 3 months I get 6 or 7 rounds a day and hauling between 29 and 31 tons.
