im getting on I69 southbond in fishers indiana

im on the on ramp got up to about 55 ready to merge

out of the corner of my eye i see a tire rolling across the interstate heading straight at me......im running 55 this tire is coming fast......i hit my brakes hard, but not to hard, and watch this tire roll a couple feet in front of my front bumper

my first instinct was it was a tire off a semi trailer but then i realized it was just the tire, no rim and was to small to be off a rig

i get down the road and see a pickup truck hauling a few tires and a bunch of other crap ready to fall out of his bed...i give him a honk and a wave

funny thing is a state trooper was next to me right when this happened, talking on his cell phone without a care in the world

    No sh#!, driver!!!

We had a woman killed by a bounding truck tire here on I-5 in Dago... the tire crossed the median barrier and CRASHED through the woman's windshield. END OF STORY. Poor gal probably never knew what hit her, except at the very last moment, 10?

Ain't no joke with this tire-rolling-and-bounding business... if your elderly mom were dealin' with it, I guess you'd be a little angry, yeah???

All I know is what I tell my friends and relatives: "IF YA SEE A TIRE OR WHEEL BOUNDING TOWARD YA, DUCK YOUR HEAD UNDER THE DASH OR OVER BEHIND THE UPRIGHT STRUT TO LEFT OR RIGHT... LET THE TIRE OR WHEEL SLAM INTO THE VEHICLE AND THEN CALL THE INSURANCE COMPANY." No piece-of-junk vehicle is worth your life... I don't care if it's a STINKING LAMBORGHINI DIABLO, it's STILL a piece of JUNK compared to your life and the lives of loved ones, 10?

That's my $.02, for what it's worth. "ADIOS!!!"

All too often I see a pick up with a load of anything and nothing holding it down. Does the law ever go after them? I bet not.
I know every driver has seen the things alone the road that flew out of the back of a pick up. One day my wife is driving and I'm in the jump seat. We are passing a guy with a sofa in the back of his truck. Just as we get along side that sofa goes airborne. I look down at him and looks up at me and I point to the back of his truck. You should have seen the look on his face. Yes he slammed on the brakes.

I think this is one of the most maddening things that I see with current law enforcement. And I see a LOT of it. Cops talking on their #### cell phones instead of "taking care of business." Yeah, I know it may be a call connected with their jobs, but come on. Constantly?:biggrin_25510:

Yeah, they do. At least in some areas. That is, if they aren't too busy talking on their cell phones. . .:biggrin_25513:

had a cop pull me over one time because I have some 10 ft. boards in my 8 ft bed.

he wrote me a ticket because I didn't have a red flag on the back.

Now I know that the law says that you only need a flag if it sticks over two feet and since I had the tailgate down it was even with the back of the tailgate and therefore was more than legal, BTW it WAS tied down.

a day out of my life taking it to court, I did get a bit of satisfaction when the judge ripped the cop a new azzhole for writing such a chickenzit ticket and taking up the courts time, the judges words not mine.

BTW this was a Ohio super trooper not some village idiot

when i haul anything in the bed of my pickup i use about twice as many straps and bungee cords as necessary

i have put 6 anchor points on the top rails of my truck bed and have plenty of good ratchet straps

a couple weeks ago me and a friend of mine were driving down 70 at around 3am and saw 2 matresses one in front of the other about 100 feet apart in the hammer lane, and i did call that in to 911, and the lady had the tone of voice like "why the hell are you calling 911 for this?"

Thanks what 911 is for. I'm sure the mattresses could have lead to a large problem.

I saw a wood 4x4 on a bridge over the Columbia river and did not call it in. Sadly there was a minor fender bender due to it laying in the road on the zipper. I felt very bad for not calling it in. :biggrin_25513: Hind sight..
