My Greydog story is from many years ago (late 70’s) and was MY fault.

My first driving job was delivering motor homes out of Indiana (Ft Wayne) to dealers nationwide. I would deliver each unit and then fly back home but often had to use buses to get from some small towns to major flight hubs for the best fares.

This delivery was to Twin Falls ID and I was on the Greydog from there to SLC where my flight was to be the next day. The bus stopped for lunch in some small po-dunk town. The restaurant was thru the lobby of an ancient hotel and the bus was parked right in front of the lobby. I had finished early so I wandered out to the lobby to a nice chair and opened the book I was reading. Musta nodded off or been a great book cause I remember suddenly looking up to see the bus was….gone!! CRAP!!!!!!!! My luggage, everything, was on that bus.

I managed to get a quick ride from a person paying his bill out to the interstate where I then threw out my thumb. A rancher heading into SLC for supplies stopped for me. He chuckled at my story and agreed to take me straight to the terminal. Big sigh of relief but I still didn’t know how far behind the bus we were.

Wouldn’t you know it but we passed that bus heading into the downtown area and I was standing at curb as the Greydog pulled into its parking spot. The bus driver stepped off and gave me a strange look like “what are YOU doing here?”

So I ended up beating the bus into the station, got my luggage, and all was well but I’ll never forget that feeling of looking up and seeing the bus was gone.

    That’s my Greydog story

Only rode once. I am based out of our Harrisburg, PA terminal. When I completed orientation, they only had one truck available, and five drivers needing trucks (one team, three solos). The team got the available truck, us three solos got shipped down to North Carolina via Greyhound to get trucks there. The ride was uneventful, really. But it was also completely miserable because I was sick. I needed sleep, but couldn't hardly get any cause we kept having to change busses. When we got to NC and I was assigned my truck, first thing I did was take a nap! I felt much better then.

Mine's from a few years ago as well (mid 80's). Needed to get from Austin to Texas A&M in College Station. So I just told the ticket agent to "get me to A&M". A couple of hours later I board the bus and go to sleep.

A few hours later, the bus driver is waking me up to tell me we arrived and time to de-bus. Well, when I got out, I was NOT at Texas A&M. Turns out the ticketing agent sold me a ticket to Prairie View A&M, outside of Houston!

It gets worse from there. The bus stop at that time was next to the college laundromat. And it turns out that the college football team is there that afternoon doing laundry. They don't appear too thrilled to see yours truly, a skinny white pipsqueak hanging around an all-black college, waiting hours for another bus wearing, of all things, a rather rude "Buckwheat" shirt. I'm rather surprised I got out of that place alive.

Every weirdo in America travels on greydog. Took a 24 hour busride to Gary,IN for orientation. In 24 hours, had a bus break down, had a driver fall asleep at the wheel until I started yelling at her, and a bunch of other incidents.

Was on a bus, sitting up front watching the road. Started up a conversation with a couple other guys. Turns out they were on their way to CR England for orientation. We're conversating through the night when some kid walks past us to talk to the driver. The bus driver yelled at him and told him to get back into his seat. This kid was having some mental issue, and was convinced that the bus driver was lost.

Great. Some idiot is going to attack the bus driver...

CRE 1: Six, whats going on?

Six: Dunno. This kid is flipping. If he puts his hands on that driver, I'm going to put him down.

CRE 2: Hey dude, if you dont sit down, I'm going to knock you the F out!!!

Kid: The bus driver is lost! He doesnt know where we are!

Six: Son, I swear...if you dont sit down and shut up, I'm going give you a whole new religion.

CRE 1: Whats wrong with him?

Six: Dunno, but he's putting everyone's life in jep.

Well, the kid got away from the driver and sat down and started frantically making calls on the phone.

If I was a busdriver, I would be packing.

I hate riding the greydog use too do it when I worked for P A M and they could not get me home for the holidays. So they would buy me a ticket on the greydog. I quit doing that when I caught me a well lets put it mildly but without any racist words but you know what you call a theiving black yeah right exactly! He was going thru my carry on bag while I slepted . I woke up in time too catch him pulling out my c.b. gave him a kick in the nuts and went too town on him too top it off other black people was seeing him stealing but did nothing to stop him and a few tried too help him when I was slapping the leaving crap out of him eeeh well I did not help my cause any when I called him the N word as I was kicking his a((ss. Well bus driver throws me and him off at the next town and calls the cops on us. Needless too say it was a nice red neck town and they keep him in Jail and sent me on my merry way. From then on I go rent a car not will take the money for the ticket they give me ad another 30 or 40 dollars too it and it will still come up not too expensive.

I bet it sucks being a greydog driver too. Being a tour bus driver is only good when you take a group on a cruise. You don't have to see their ###es for a week, and if you can take your wife with you, it's a paid vacation. So with that said, if a tour bus driver's job is only fair, I stress again, a greydog driver must be in bus driving hell.
