I have no doubt to Southern Prides story. Back in the eighties, I was riding with my brother and either he wasn't paying attention or what, I can't remember. He told the driver ahead of us we might bump his trailer--just for a heads up. The driver replied OK. Well, luckily, we didn't hit the truck, just got Real close, and I mean close. We went down the road talking to that driver till we had to part ways. But, that's the way it was back then. It really was fun to be out on the road. Drivers used to talk with each other, warn each other, and help each other. And, a lot of places were glad to see us come by. Motorists used to consider us the Knights of the Highway. Truckers were always helping stranded people out on the road. It just seems times....they be a changin'

I've had help over the cb when blind siding in some ts spaces. Even though I drove an open step deck the oversize loads we tended to carry blocked all of our vision. I always thank the driver, even if it is just to let me know I am not going to scrape someones rig.

With a few minor uncalled for ecceptions, this is a good thread here. The old ways is good and should come back as we americans all struggle for a living.

We should all do our part in trying to get the old ways back.

I wish to thank all that posted on this thread, after today I was ready to just start a new thread letting all know how I see things these days and someone already did. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one dissapointed in todays trucking/truckers. I know most don't check out these forrums and what not but the more we can get to read and listen, the more we can fix the problems,,,a little anyway. Times are changing, trucking is changing and thats a fact. The old ways of running two or more log books and driving for 24hrs straight are gone. Electronic logging will be in just about every truck within the next couple years, BMI is becoming an issue and two tickets in 36mo's can cost you your CDL for a spell. You would think that drivers would TRY to clean up thier act but man, I see speeders and worse all the time. To be honest, I am looking forward to the change. Some drivers need to be taken off the road and we all know it. I am always willing to help a driver and have. The problem is, those drivers that you might offer help to, don't even have thier radio on, they don't care about you or me. It is a me, me society and that includes the trucking industry. I will be doing what I have been and tightening up in the area's that need it. I believe trucking will become a lucritive business in the next couple of years. Companies are going to be focusing on the elite drivers and those drivers will be making the money...that is my two cents and I pray I am right.

    DG,

Could you elaborate on the BMI???

    SP,

Spot on and nice story about helping the other driver. It shows the good values, character, and respect you show for others.
