TWIC is a TSA thing... going back to port security. I'd say DOD probably doesn't think too much of anything the bubbleheads at TSA are up to!

To get onto a base??? Probably to get into a port yes but onto a base? I'm doubting that. All they would do on the base I was stationed at(I got out 5 weeks ago) was pull the truck over to the inspection side and check the paper work and I would imagine there DL and stuff like that.

Retired military can go on any base in the US and still go shopping and get everything tax free if he wanted to. I know I am going to take advantage of that

    Think again!

Mcquire AFB, Ft. Dix, & the Texarkana Army Depot do request that you have a TWIC card. You can still get in without it, but have to be escorted. From what the gaurds at Ft. Dix told me, eventually all the miltary bases are going to require it from individuals who are not currently active in the military.

For that matter I am still active duty for a few more days. I am just on terminal leave until my end of active service day. My Active ID is still in my pocket.

That's right. He went on the base and had to be escorted to the port.

Military port was okay. But they were glad he had the TWIC though.

I've never once been asked for a TWIC card on any base usually its just drivers license and proof of insurance or something....Only escorted once that I remember and that was at Anniston....

Could have used an escort at Bragg a couple times, got big time lost there more than once..

Base inspection at the gate...I remember once delivering Jet A to Travis...stopped at the gate, Sgt. came out and told the rookie airman SP to do the truck inspection. the airman got the bills, did the under the truck thing, got my ID info then proceeded up the ladder and across the rear trailer tank, opened the lid, got down on his knees...luckily the Sgt. was watching and hopped up to get his ankles before he fell in...he left in a medic unit...a real funny pale green color on his face! LOL

And they say truckers are DUMB!
