Mockingbird, I know that they give you 300 while in orientation and your time with a trainer. I like the fact that you don't have to spend 6 to 8 weeks with a trainer. What region are you going to be running in???
Walstib, i've heard some sketchy things about them on that side of the states. Just watch your six bud i'd hate to see you get the short end of the stick and end up hating life.
How much schneider pay the drivers?

After 6 months at Maverick I am at .41 a mile....I had 0 experience when I went there. Check around! -
Where did you go for the schooling?
-
Well mockingbird you have alot of good options on that side of the moutain and if what was said about maverick is true i'd be there quick. Just make sure you ask all the important questions. It'll help that you know the NY area too cuz alot of drivers don't like going into NY.

What the hell you go to school for 3 weeks then a trainer for 2 weeks.. I had driven a truck for 5 years in fields and stuff loading hay and produce and knew how to back how to get around before I went to school and if they threw me out there with only 2 weeks I would have crapped the bed. This is very unsafe in my opinion.. Get a load going west through the rockies.. aload of beer from denver to phoenix go over LeVeta Pass and Wolf Creek Pass like that.. you won't make it off the mountain with 2 weeks exp.

Then you'd hate Watkins Shepard, ZERO time with trainer...I wonder how their accident record competes with others?!?...Schneider is only a week to 10 days also...

You only learn enough in school to get yourself in a world of hurt.. I didn't like my time with my trainer he smoked I didn't he was a womanizer I am not.. he was a racist black man and I am white... We got along like oil and water... but he did teach me alot that I didn't know and I had to only go for 3 weeks because I knew how to drive.. 18 days. and I learned a lot from him my first load was to a sears tire store in clovis new mexico.. curbs ever where cars everwhere it took me forever to get a plan of attack. probably 3 to 4 minutes but when you are blocking a parking lot and getting shot the finger and cussed it seems longer... without that racist smoking womanizers training I don't know what I would have done.

I was originally leaning towards, and excited about, Watkins Shepard as they have no trainer program but since driving what little I have and with winter coming, I've decided it would be smarter to go with a trainer program and avoid the trial by fire method of learning...If it was risky in good weather, the winter, IMO, is no place to learn the hard way so I'm only looking at companies with trainer programs now...I know enough to know I don't know enough and getting thru the toughest season of the year with an experienced person seems the smartest move...

Yeah I was offered a job when I first started with some outfit ptl or one of those.. and they had 2 students going together for training.. I believe you are making the right choice going with atleast some training you will be better for it.
