I have a 2005 chapter 7 bankruptcy discharge on my credit history due to unfortunate circumstances.
I have spent the past several years rebuilding my credit and have maintained a car loan with ontime payments for 4 years now and have very little credit card debt to speak of(maybe 1000.00). The thing is.. my wife had surgery and her insurance didn't cover all of it. We budgeted what we could afford to make payments on the balance of the medical bill but the hospital decided to submit it to their lawyer so now I am facing garnishment on that medical bill...Of course..before we went for the court date on nov 4, to arrange garnishment, my company closed its doors two weeks ago without paying my last two paychecks and all vacation time owed.
I am just wondering if either my 2005 bankruptcy or a garnishment on a medical bill would prevent me from getting a job. I know that alot of prospective employers look at credit histories now too, but not sure if trucking companies do....Thanks!!

well sure many employers do run a credit check, but this is "extenuating circumstances"... you could not foresee the medical bills, or garnishment. for the time being, i really wouldn't sweat this too much. if you are ever denied a job, and it is due to your credit, the company by law, MUST send you a copy of the credit background checking service. from there you can make phone calls, emails, whatever. but relax a bit, you're making me nervous.rocknroll nik Thanks this.

You might want to check your state laws on paying creditors, I know some states have them written in such a way that if the company cashes a check, then they must consider the payment made even if it's for less then the amount due and as long as your doing that they shouldn't be able to garnish you, but like I said do your research, and always ask a lawyer
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
they can't garnish your income if you have none !!!
Call, you should be able to work this out !! -
The garnishment thing is so recent I would recommend applying everywhere you want right now, the sooner the better before it hits the credit reporting.

I think this is the least of your problems, going after your lost wages should be front and center.
rocknroll nik Thanks this.
