You may fall a little short on that 40-45K for the first year, wasn't that your goal ?

Goals are important to have, otherwise you're spinning your wheels !!


I never made good money with a big company, in fact, sometimes the smaller the company= the more I made !!!

Look around, it's out there, if you want to work...it IS definetly out there !!!!

 

This is terrible advice IMO. You have zero obligations to a company who pays you that poorly, and other trucking companies are fully aware of their methods.

Keep your DMV clean, don't abandon a vehicle, and do not quit before you have another job, and you'll be fine.

Mention the name Schneider to other companies and they will laugh so don't be concerned about moving on whenever you need to.

A driver with a clean DMV can get work anywhere.

 

I don't think he was concerned with obligations. (though I could be wrong) I think he was talking more along the lines of job history and company hopping.

 

I just cannot believe they are paying that low. That is the lowest I have heard of, with 12 cpm perdiem.
Most do not got over 8 cpm for that, because they are scared to go over the limit and get fined for over paying it.
But his miles are so low they will not do that anyway.
Normally I would say stay and get a year, but in this case I would start looking. That is no money at all.
You should be taking home at least 800 a week with that high of perdiem. Since they are only taxing the other income.
I knew they were not great, but I never knew they put the screw to new drivers that bad. I think even Werner is better than that. And that says something.

 

Can you ask for a different DM? Maybe a change would help your bottom line.

 

Terrible advice, I don't think so. You're going on the assumption that another company will believe that Schneider may be the worse company out there but some if not the majority will believe that the driver is jumpimg all around and why should they take a risk. 6 months is just not enough time to seek out the better jobs and just because you have 6 months of clean driving does not guarantee you a job everywhere.

 

I would ask for a different DM, or go above their head, to try and get the hometime worked out. If I didn't get any satisfaction that way, I would start looking.

 

I don't know. That .03 cpm stolen in the name of per diam adds up to 300 dollars a month. That's based on 2500 miles a week. 3600 dollars a year. I'd make getting off of per diam priority ONE. There's where most of your money is going.

 

Here's my point, the days when large trucking companies were respected are over. Everyone knows they are running a scam and that includes the majority of other trucking companies.

I don't know what his goals are, in terms of long-term jobs, but he could check with companies he's interested in before he makes a decision.

But in the end, that old advise about not job hopping is outdated. Falling wages and a deteriorating work environment have made it a free-for-all in the trucking industry.

I'll stick with my primary advise to him, an experienced driver with a clean DMV can get hired anywhere.

This is not 1980. Times have changed.

 

6 months is not a lot of experience but on the other hand. You already have a job.

If you are unhappy with your company it won't get better. I would fill out applications and start making phone calls. I will agree with everyone else, don't quit until you have another job to go to.

If you truely try to find another company to drive for you will find it. You can't just fill out a couple apps and say well I guess I don't have enough experience.
