This aint looking good. Reading previous posts by crete drivers, who usually aren't very critical of crete and defends it quite well confirmed my fears. I remember them as being a good company when i drove them, good miles and frankly would have still been with them if it wasn't for home-time situations. However, seeing how things are right now, I cant wait to ask questions ....

"I ran into a rehire who was fired for having numerous accident, this guy admitted to having at least 13 of them and was still rehired by crete after leaving to drive for various other carriers. I say this because I remember having to suck some schlongs just to get crete to approve my application being that I came straight from driving school. With not even a parking ticket on me, they had a hard-time getting me onboard. After considering the frequency at which I see owner op trucks (not leasing to own) leased to crete these days, and aggressive recruiting; you can easily see that crete is either expanding rapidly to the extent of implosion or simply compensating for turnovers.
What ever it is, it obvious crete is undergoing a major transformation with a fairly predictable outcome at the moment which isn't very desirable for me as a driver. whether it is a profit maximization strategy for them, making a killing on those short loads and starving drivers, i don't know and frankly don't give a schpietz. I do care about my revenue, the short trip thing don't do it for me. (removed sick and disgusting language)
Staying out 21 days at a time and not making a reasonable wage don't float my boat. Will keep looking, will jump ship before a titanic effect occurs here."
What is going on with crete? Do anyone see them heading towards that warner jb hunt path?

I always try and look on the bright side, the positive of things.
Maybe they're gearing up to take on some new large accounts? -
I think they are gearing up just in case.
They may be banking on the economy picking up some time this next year and want to be ready to go.
Most company's are on the low end for driver numbers, thus when/ if the economy does pick back up they will not be able to keep up with demand.
So they will either be brokering out freight, or turning it down due to not enough drivers/ trucks.
Crete is still Debt free, like Knight and Heartland. These company's made it the past few years constantly making money, and they can afford to gamble when others cannot.
Just have to wait and see if the gamble pays off.
Now the down side to this gamble is that for now they have too many drivers, and thus not enough miles to go around. This will cause extra turnover and cause more hiring to be needed.
For them this may not be a bad thing on the profit side though. It is the higher paid drivers that are leaving. Not the new ones. So they are having to pay out less per mile.
I have thought about this allot because I think heartland is doing the same thing right now. We actually have more freight than we can handle at the moment. My terminal is about 80 drivers short, and NE region is more than that. -

All these "big" companies won't be happy until there is a starving driver on every street corner in America at the ready. Funny thing is, there will STILL be drivers defending and praising these companies for getting ahead. When you have a workforce that you don't even have to pay....the sky is the limit.
Beechvtail and halfburn Thank this. -
You can still make money, even though not as much as anyone would like. I do stay out 3 weeks at a time, sometimes 3 1/2, but as I want to maximize my pay, I do that. I'm averaging about 11,500 miles per month which isn't all bad in these times. My miles are affected more by whether they are drop/hooks or live unloads rather than the shorter runs. The shorter runs aren't bad if you can just drop them. Not trying to say all is rosy, but not always as bad as advertised either.
