I applied with both. Never heard back from Gordon, come to find out it's because they don't hire WA drivers. Went with W/S.

W/S was my 1st choice due to the 10 day then solo. I can think of 1 person in this world I could spend 24/7 in a truck with and she's too young to drive!

Yeah Gordon all the way...:biggrin_25523:... well I think the info that you provided cinched it for me... I am going to call Roxy in the morning and see how my application and letter are coming along... I am hoping that I might be able to talk someone into giving me a loan to get me through school then I will just pay it back with the tuition reimbursement.....

Then if all goes well I will try to post all of my experiences through the process... altho I am not sure if I will have access to a laptop for a while... anyways thats a different story.

I'm from Stockton too. If you're looking for a trucking company that has a terminal close to home don't discount Swift. They have a terminal right down the road about 14 miles in Lathrop. It's perfect for hometime. I park my personal vehicle there and use that zip code for my hometime request and they route me right to the terminal.

Gordon Trucking's terminal is in Modesto I believe about 35 miles from Stockton and I think they have a drop yard in Sacramento about 45 miles north or so.

I don't know anything about Watkins Shepard.

JB Hunt is looking for intermodal drivers with 2 years of experience to run out of Stockton. Great pay great hometime if that's what you're into hehe.

The school I attended (Western Pacific) allowed recruiters from Werner, Covenant, Trans Systems, and Gordon to come talk to us. They offered job placement assistance with all these companies plus CRST and some others I can't recall now. But they were very against Swift and especially CREngland for their students.

If your WIA doesn't work out, try Swift they might be able to train you and get your CDL. CREngland will too but caveat emptor.

Yeah I am not really sure if I want to go with Swift. I started their training a few years ago and I heard a lot of bad things just from their drivers that pulled into the training terminal. So they are deffinetly a last resort.
Gordon right now is #2 on the list.. I didn't know they had a yard in Sacramento though. Thanks for that info. I am still waiting to hear from Gordon though.. I filled out an app for them the same time I did for W/S. W/S replied within 2 hours of me submitting the app.
I am looking at going to Western Pacific, however I have talked to a few people and gotten some bad vibes, but they wouldn't be specific. I do know that their equipment doesn't look all that great. I was referred to Twin Cities Truck School in Sacramento. I heard a lot of good things about them, their school is over 1K less than W/P and it is still the 160hr course. Their school is on pavement instead of dirt. The only down side is it is a 40 minute drive. But concidering the industry I am going into thats nothing:biggrin_25525:.
I am hating this #### WIA process. I am so hoping I can get a pre-hire letter from W/S and Gordon and take them down to the WIA office and tell them to get off their arses or I am going to miss out.. Anyways if I have to go to a company sponsored training I think that it might be for Central at this point. But I am not really sure.
Well that is kewl... Hopefully they will continue with that and not tell you guys that you have to pay it back due to a clerical error... :biggrin_25526:

I went with Gordon right after school..
Been out with trainer for 22 days (on the truck, not counting his days off)... has been a great experience. Of course, you hear everyone complaining. But the way I look at it, you will always have people complaining. Hell, I was an engineer and making 31 bucks an hour and I still heard people complaining!

I have a couple of weeks to go before my final orientation and getting my own truck. My trainer has been excellent!

    Good luck!

you dont hear us or anyone else complaining about Watkins Shepard...and if you had come here instead you would have had your own truck a LONG time ago lol. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything just trying to show the differances between the 2 companies
