We're kind of hoping TD's trainer is a trainer, not a guy just wanting another log book. From what I've heard so far, he's better than the average Swift mentor. At least he has more than 2 years on the road and he is an o/o. Do I remember correctly that his truck is already paid off?

I was kinda irritated... And I had a Swift driver on the phone while I was offer assistance.... I don't think I need to say which driver though.... I think most already know.
I was so irritated, I about called Swift, leased on, & began training just to get some real education into some of these driver's...
Then I came to my sences on the 100 mile drive home.orion3814 and outerspacehillbilly Thank this. -
Yes, His truck is paid off (Used, 40k ) ANd is very interested in teaching me lots of things.

I had a chat with one of SWIFTS "mentors" a while back...The guy had been driving for 4 years and was a "mentor"...Never mind he didn't know what he was doing half the time!
He even told me that he didn't think he was qualified to train anyone but that he just did it because it was the only way he could make ends meet as a "fleece" operator!
The guy has had his "fleece" truck for more than year and doesn't even know what engine is in it!
He couldn't even tell me what color the engine was when I asked him.
I was telling him that I just had a brake can replaced because it was leaking air and he actually asked me..."What's a brake can?"
It's a ####### disgrace what passes for truck drivers these days!
How in the hell can you teach someone how to operate equipment that you know nothing about?JimBob24 Thanks this. -

Sad thing is...They would NEVER hire you, or me for that matter! They don't want "drivers" to actually teach a rookie anything...They want "indoctrinators" to teach the poor slobs the SWIFT way regardless whether it's the right way or not!
If you have less that 10 years on the road, You have no business trying to train anyone to do this!orion3814 Thanks this. -
Is this going to start on a swift bashing binge now? I mean my first 'day ' is in 11 hours, some positive stuff would be nice.

This driver I dealt with today was heavy on his steers. He kept sliding his tandems... Scaled 4 times & was getting on the girl who runs the fuel desk nerves.
So I told him that the only way he's is going to move that weight is by sliding his 5th. wheel. I got the deer in headlights look. So I figured I'd show him, but he would have to do all the work.
Told him to dolly down his trailer & he did. Told him to set his trailer brakes & he did. Then I told him to unlock his 5th wheel..... and he started to unlock his kingpin jaws.... Of course I stopped him!
I know it isn't something that happens all the time. But a driver not only needs to know how to slide a set of tandems... But they also need to know how to slide the 5th wheel -
I understand everyone has hate for one company or another, but when someone is already excited/nervious is a time for encouragement, not 'we hate your company because of this!'

I'm not bashing yet!!!
Ask your trainer everything..... You have this forum to answer questions & determine if your trainer is correct or not.orion3814 Thanks this.
