Thinking Hunt still catches flak but I'm referring to the mid to late 1980s time frame. I've already forgotten all of the J.B. jokes....
-
That's because they weren't that "swift"!
-
-
I gotta ask ... what would be an omnipotent victim?
-
It's just a couple of big words strewn together to make the user feel intelligent.
Their context in this case is unwarranted and displaced. I see no mention anywhere of claimed "victimhood" on TexasNana's part.
Apparently there was a discussion in another thread that is spilling over into this one. We've seen this before. However, since I don't particularly feel like wasting any more band width, I shall follow Ms. Nana out of this thread. It has run far past its due course and has become an excuse to beliittle drivers who happen to be employed by Swift.
The Swift bashers can have the entire Swift subheading. We'll just have to hide our internal (infernal??) discussions elsewhere.
If anyone has legitimate questions about Swift or my experiences as both a company driver and a lessor, please feel free to PM me. I said legitimate questions. BS will be summarily deleted and ignored.TruckerDragon Thanks this. -
I thought that sarcastic post was funny lol -- still laughing...
My feeling is that Swift drivers are considered 'idiots' in other words, guilty before being found innocent if you will. The quality and training of the company's drivers has gone way up but the steady trickle of old videos and new (old videos that are just now being uploaded to the net) are coming out portraying Swift accidents perpetuates the notion of Swift Idiots. So you have these BillyBigRigger (just as bad as calling someone a Swift Idiot) aggressively passing Swift trucks, shaving off part of Swift's lane to attempt to scare him/her into the ditch and there's no evidence-- just looks like Swifty can't keep lane control. How 'bout when 4wheeler comes screaming past Swift at 85 miles an hour then settles in just 50 feet in front of Swift's front end at less than 100 feet or worse yet when 4wheeler shoots across Swift's bow to make that exit? There are actually people out there kamikaze driving around big rigs hoping for a big insurance payday.
The other day in heavy rain and strong winds upstate New York I-90 Eastbound, an owner operator was going to show me how it's "done, son!", passes me up aggressively then not so smoothly jerks over in front of me, his trailer caught a gust of wind that pushed it over to kiss the grass on the side of the road. For a moment I thought he was going to flip right over in front of me-- I was thinking, somehow that's going to be Swift driver's (mine) fault.
If you're driving a Swift truck, you hear it (Swift Idiot assumptions) all the time on the CB whether out on the road or the minute you pull into the truck stop. If I happen to back into a spot on the first try without any pullups, that's just considered "doing your job as a professional" as it should be-- no compliments or anything but if a O/O does that, the chatter is like "that's some mighty fine skills/maneuvering there bubba".
I pulled into a jam packed truckstop late one night south of Chicago, guy says, "hey I'm leaving in a minute get yourself setup so Swift don't steal it (the hole)". Like he was assuming I didn't have a radio or something lol. Well Mr. O/O was so nervous that I might pull straight into the hole that he missed it by a whole truck width lol (he was watching me instead of his job). I got on the radio and said 'one more chance and Swift gets it' lol Of course I wouldn't do that, I'm sure the guy was exhausted.
I've been out here just 6 months but have only been complimented once- in other words felt the camaraderie of fellow non Swift truckers for my good lane control and cleanliness of my truck. I've had plenty of passing trucks start to come over way too soon that caused me to have to go to the right and slow down to avoid a collision. It has happened so many times I think there is a cabal of truckers out there who see Swift as a 'cheap freight' hauler taking money from their pockets and tries to put them in the ditch knowing chances are pretty good the driver doesn't possess the skills to know what to do and ends up in the ditch. -
I am sure most of these Swift "bashers" have a severe inferiority complex and are very insecure about their driving talents (or lack there-of) so they join a group of similar drivers (whom may also be insecure about their abilities, and/or just plain incompetent) and cast insults towards Swifties (or rather the Swift truck), just so they feel better about themselves. Gives them something to "puff their chests out" about, look at the other group of drivers and say: "hahaha, yeah, look at them lousy Swift Drivers!", all the while thinking to themselves:"####, I wish I could drive as well as he/she can (sigh)." Similar to the weakling who hangs around the bully, just so they feel better (tougher) than they really are and to feel accepted by someone/anyone. It is sad, actually.

Swift Drivers

I still think this thread belongs in the humor forum. -
I disagree. About the people that bash Swift do it because they can't drive. It all seems to have started when a few people (who actually worked for Swift) started talking bad about them and the rest of the sheep just wanted a sense of belonging. I guarantee you that over 70% of the people that bash Swift have never been employed there. They just go by word of mouth. And they wholeheartedly believe that word oblivious to the fact that embellishments could be at hand. I wouldn't say that I'm a better driver than the man making fun of the company I chose to work for, but I know I'm a good one. And I started out at Swift. I also still drive (at times) like it's my first time out. Too much confidence can lead to too much ####iness. Too much ####iness leads to mistakes. After three years and and a half with nothing on my safety record, I'm happy with myself and my job and they are happy with me.
I just don't understand why band waggoners are such. I do wonder what people get out of ragging on Swift. But I know that I'll never get a straight answer so it will always be the mystery.Buckeye 'bedder Thanks this.
