I am a craps fiend. With just $100 a tight player like me can play for about 12 hours straight. The key is to look for games that have the smallest house edge.

I'm really worried about the new HOS that is supposed to be coming out. What if they change the restart to 48 hours? That is going to suck bigtime. If they roll the driving time back to 10 hours though, chances are most drivers would never need to do a restart I'm thinking because they will be limiting their driving to 9 hours and change, keeping below the 70 and running off recap hours every day every day without a break-- which is probably what the powers that be want-- keep driving driver used like a mule til you drop...

If you aren't doing your 34 at home,

perhaps you work for the wrong company !!!

Unless that is how you prefer it to be.

A 34 isn't bad if you are at the house. Like others have said there are things to do other than sit in the truck and be bored. It's really up to you what you do with it.

If the reset goes to 48 hours you can bet that the companies will want you shutting it down either at the house/terminal or run on your recap.

In response to the 10 hour drive time...well that won't be too bad....generally I tried to economize my driving when I worked for the mega carriers ( ie. trucks with quallcoms) because they used to bust my chops for driving a full 11.
So I cut my drive time to under 10. worked for me and I wasn't as dog axx tired everyday

I do mine at the house, period. I'll screw with my logs till I get home and keep them looking legal until I get home, then I'll do a restart. The truth is the truth. Thats what I do. I enjoy playing with th ekids and the wife too much to sit out on the road doing a restart. Now I know some guys can't do that because of the companies they work for, but thats why I work for O/O's LOL.
As far the upcoming rule change goes, I doubt they do it, this system works too well for everyone.

I doubt seriously that they'll do away with the restart..Why you ask....well because the truckers WANT them to do away with the restart. Hell they didn't start this 34 hour restart until after 2000 anyway...and back then drivers could split break 5 and 5 none of this 8 and 2 hr bs. You did 5 in the bunk and you clock stopped end of story...I know drivers that had 5 and 5 going constantly......if they change it it'll get longer if anything and the amount of time driving and working will get shorter.

If working for a company with a tracking system, is it correct that the truck cannot move at all during the reset? So would all errands such as laundry, food, ect.... have to be done on foot?

I would love the 5/5 - especially as I'm going team - the truck would hardly ever stop moving (except to load/unload - and potty breaks - LOL)!!

That 5 & 5 rocked! I drove under the old rules, and being able to split the time and stop the clock worked out well for me. There is a certain time of day that I have a hard time staying awake no matter how well rested I am. The ability to split like that worked out well for me.
