I will have a beer at night if I am driving the next day, but nothing more. But I can totally see your point here....even if you got in an accident that was not your fault, but the presence of alcohol was detected, you're toast. Even if the other guy was totally at fault.

How far gone is your liver? Mine is shot, I think. It could be that I don't drink anymore too though, that when I have 2 drinks I'm super buzzed. As a young Marine, a 6 pack every single night was 'just getting started'. That was back in the 80's when they first started the questionaires about how much we were drinking in a week. One of the questions was if we had more than 6 drinks in a week's time. We laughed at it then but it makes perfect sense now. I recommend limiting your drinking to just your hometime. If you have a 34 out on the road maybe then but get a hotel room.

This is my story, I was a heavy drinker for many years. 20 yrs ago i got a DuI. I was lucky, wrecked my pickup, and nobody got hurt...I worked on the highway for many years building the roads we drive on, 8 years ago I lost a good friend and co worker to a drunk driver, The driver was 24 yrs old. After the Dot investagtion and state troopers ,Declared that as a contractor we had done our job correctly an were not lible.....On the flip side of this at the end of the day, we had to contact this mans wife to inform her of the tragity. Now mind you, we worked alot of hours, and we all knew each others familys very well as for any such partys and or holidays we all spent together in some fasion.........After haveing to go to this mans home, and exsplain to his wife and 3 beautifull little girls ,"why daddy wasnt comeing home anymore".....I quit drinking! To walk out of that house after watching this mans wife buckel from greif and the three little girls crying with their mother, and my heart in my throat and the only thing my boss and my self could do was look at each other...and nare a word was spoken on the way home.......my friends, the end result of haveing one more for the road, Just isnt worth it !!! take it from someone that has been on both sides of the fence.....

My rule is nothing within 24 hrs of driving. It's just not worth it to me.

So what do you do If you were told you have the next 5 days off So you decide to have a couple of beers with dinner 1 night About 930 the boss decides to call you To ask you to drive the next morning At 0530???
So let's recount the facts, between 1730 and 213@0, I drank 4 normal size beers, confident in the k owledge I had the next 5 days off. When my boss called me at 2130 to ask me to drive for him in 8 hours. The question is should I have told him no, or was I good to drive???

I would have told him the truth. Myself, I wouldn't have driven. The only exception is being aware of the fact that I may be called in, in which case I wouldn't have had anything to drink. Each situation is different. But in the given set of circumstances, I would have said no.

    Caller ID?
When you company drivers are home and in this case were told you got the next 5 days off and the boss is calling at 9:30 at night why answer the phone? You know deep down he aint callin to ask how are you injoying your time off LOL. Call him back 3 or 4 days later say Sup,....I seen were you called, did ya need something?
After a few times like that they should learn to leave you alone when you have your home time.

    Pete:
TruckerDave drives local not OTR -he is in NY on his time off as he is scheduled to work in NY covering vacation starting 12/27 (normallly he works out of Ohio) The reason the boss called was the NY driver got hurt and this was very last minute-also what do you do when you really like a job but feel like you can't say no to the boss and want to keep the job?? There are lots of drivers out there and this is a good job-home every, night good money, good hours.

    scottied67 Thanks this.
