Anyone have the new CA driver license? Pretty cool lookin, very advanced for a peice of plastic I think. I do not have one currently, but I am going to apply for my M1 license this spring, so I will probably have it then.

I got my new license back in December. It was cool for a couple minutes but then it quickly wore of. Now I wonder what else they put in it that they don't tell you about. One step closer to national ID's and being microchipped.

Interestingly enough if the government could force this upon commercial drivers and we wouldn't have much of a say about it. I mean they already require a thumbprint in California to get any kind of license or ID.

Sorry didn't mean to go off on an anti-establishment rant. :biggrin_25523:

They won't do a national ID, the State's will not go for it. The reason each State is going to a more secure license is because of the Real ID Act. Licenses are easily counterfeited. This isn't about different conspiracies of how the gov't is going to get you. It will actually make it harder for someone to steal your identity by using a driver's license.

Well, just as the Fed has forced modernization on smaller states that used to have no driver's test, and flimsy paper driver's licenses with no photos there will be a way to standardize the state driver's license to effectively become the national ID.

A bigger challenge for the DOT remains the national database. State DOTs still don't keep an easily accessible record when a truck crosses a scale, unless the vehicle is actually stopped and given an exam, or an accident or theft causes law enforcement to review the security camera images. The black box idea is coming though...
