Come on now, Cali deserves some props, 8th largest economy in the world. If Cali seceded the United States would fall to 2nd largest economy behind China.

I'm often amazed at how a lot of ignorant American's trash San Francisco for being a place of weirdos (Yeah, like every truck stop lounge isn't filled with weirdos--many of whom are gay too). For those who haven't actually visited this city or been able to compare the urban fun available and beauty of the landscape views of SF with every other metropolitan city in North America, I've got news for you! Not only do the SF Giants Rule, but so does SF. This city has more things to do per square mile than any other in North America. Maybe it's envy or jealousy that causes so much negativism against the district represented by Nancy Pelosi.
Aw shucks, I love camping and fishing too, but come on guys. Urban adventures are different, and maybe take some practice to learn how to get around (without the truck).
Let's compare urban cores--Dallas? yeah, right!, Fort Worth is even worse; Atlanta, nice but nope; Columbus or Indianapolis? Same population right? Yeah, BORING; St Louis or Detroit? Once great cities, starving at the urban core;
New Orleans, well, now we might have something even with all the problems this city faces. New Orleans is great in many ways, and ranks second my my list, AFTER San Francisco.
Boston? No enough good food, and too many Irish bars. Phili or Pittsburgh? Denver or Salt Lake? Good skiing nearby, but so does SF. SF is more pleasant in winter than most cities in the USA.
Nashville or Memphis? Richmond or Louisville? Cleveland or Cincinatti? Madison or Minneapolis? Omaha or DeMoines? Kansas City or Chicago? LA or Phoenix? Houston or San Antonio? All have at least some great culture worth appreciating--don't get me wrong, I love visiting all these places-- but none is able to promote it's culture so well as SF. SF is the wealthiest of American big cities...
No other North American cities attracts so many wealthy condo buyers from Europe and Asia than SF. Why? None of these cities even comes close to offering all that the great city by the bay has packed on it's knot of hills and valleys.scottied67 Thanks this. -
You can call me ignorant if it makes you sleep good at night. I have visited SF and like I said before It's ok to visit. No way in hell would I live there of any part of CA. If the state is so great as some others are saying then why is it over 80% of people I have talked go are in the process of moving out
-
I sure hope it's great ...
Since there's talk of a federal bailout for California now ... like to know what we'll be paying for? -
1. That was almost 2 years ago and was the brainchild of our Republican governator, Mr. Schwarzenegger. Our current Democratic leader has proposed a plan that might actually get us back on track if we can get everyone to agree to it. Other states are in worse shape than California. Arizona is probably the brokest and a year or two ago when I was camping in Oregon & reading a local paper they were talking about tearing the asphalt off lightly used county roads and making them gravel because they couldn't afford to maintain the pavement. They had already closed the libraries.
2. IMHO the money used to bail out Wall Street should have gone to provide relief/support for states and municipalities. It would have benefited a far greater number of working people, instead of of all the financial industry fat cats who have already resumed taking us down the road to ruin.
And FWIW I would rather live in SF or LA than any other urban area with a population of over 1 million and challenge anybody to name one with better food, culture, access to outdoor recreation, weather and sexier women. The only thing wrong with California is all the people that have moved here from back east.scottied67 Thanks this. -
for 1 in cali is so great why does it loose half a million residents a year... and i like being able to breath clean air so LA is out of the question for me... but nor cal and and the lake tahoe area they are all good people in these area's seem more down to earth and real
TruckrsWife and scottied67 Thank this. -

Sacramento - ' California's population has increased by nearly 5 million people over the past decade, but that growth has slowed in recent years and the number of people in the state grew by less than 1 percent between 2009 and 2010, according to the California Department of Finance.
Also, over the past few years, more people have left California for other states than have come here, though foreign immigration and natural increases due to births have kept the Golden State's population on an upward trend to 38.8 million, according to the department's annual population estimate released Thursday.
