ABS out of service ?

Not sure about that Bill....good question....but my guess if I was FORCED to guess would be not OOS but definitely written up

 

I've had this happen. Got written up for it, company had 15 days to fix it and report back.

 

My ABS light was lit for months. I just wrote it every day on the DVIR. When I was in for oil changes and service I'd report it on the red tag but they never took care of it. Finally had tread separation on a steer tire and an air leak put in shop and once again reported the ABS on red tag (different terminal) they fixed it. Got hit by an SUV in the primary drive axle and the light came on again. Shop fixed the ABS light again no problem.

Long story short I believe it is a CSA thing if not an OOS thing as well. However, I was inspected at a scale house and the guy looked at my logs where I had written about the ABS light every day on the DVIR and he let me go with a clean inspection.

Couple of things you can do is contact your DM and mechanic, or terminal manager and ask directly through qualcomm and phone as well as reporting it daily on your DVIR. When you truck is due for service write it up. Technically both you and the mechanic are supposed to sign off on repairs on you DVIR.

 

ABS was only an option on older trailers, it has been mandatory for some time. I'm sure DieselBear has commented on this in another thread someplace, but I'm not sure where. And taking the bulb out so that the light doesn't show is a violation too! Any way you look at it, it will be points with the new CSA2010, does your company want that? And maybe you should ask that to them!

 

I had a dedicated step deck at my last company and when I first got the trailer, I was in a big rush to get down to California, but the circuit board for the ABS system was no good, so the ABS light was lit on the trailer all the time. It also lit up the trailer ABS light on the panel above the windshield in my W900L.

All I did was unplug the plug from the ABS light on the trailer, and put a perfectly cut piece of electrical tape over my trailer ABS light on my overhead console in my W900L. The tape actually matches perfectly, you'd have to look extremely hard to see it. Kept it like that for 2 months until I could finally get it fixed!

ABS is very expensive to fix and maintain on air brake systems, and is almost always not working properly.
