I have read the other posts about usa truck, and I didn't see anything really positive about them. I just completed my 1 year service obligation with them and, unfortunately, I don't have anything to disagree from what I read. I found everything I read to be true with me at one time or another. For the most part, things that bothered me the most were incompetent dispatchers with difficulties understanding simple statements. I'm not referring to language barriers, just inability to reason.
I just did my year quietly, held my breath when necessary, and did what I was told. When I felt I was cheated out of money, I took it in stride. When I went thru dry spells averaging 1200-2000 miles a week, I counted to 10. When I was lied to about anything, which felt like often at times, I looked for the light at the end of the tunnel. I always said please and thank you and never complained. Why did I do this?
Because USA TRUCK was never going to be my final destination. I discovered that soon enough. All I expected to get from them was a cdl, clean and free, and now I have that.
My wife just informed me we have our tuition check from driver solutions, (the school I got my cdl from) and called them to confirm the account was final. My share of the debt was 1095.00, USA paid them 4500.00 for my education. Total, almost 6000.00.
I do find myself confused however. I was told to expect to be treated badly for the first year, and I wasn't disappointed. However, I can't help but wonder, USA invested a lot of money in my training, why didn't they try harder to keep me around after that 1st year? Sure, I'm grateful for the financial assistance and training, and feel my gratitude has been paid in full by the 1 year of exceptional employment I strived to give to them. It just seems like a waste of money on their part.
I have a spotless shiny cdl, no infractions, accidents, or tickets. After a year of driving, I feel I am now the kind of driver USA wants, except now I'm obviously leaving. My average pay for the year has been approximately 400.00 a week, the insurance is all but useless, (2000 per year per family member deductible for medical AND prescription), and I never get runs through my home. Every 3 weeks I return home, however usually late.
anyway, thats my dac on usa truck, take from it what you will. A good friend of mine is looking at getting into trucking when he retires, hopefully I've got him steered clear of this company.
Now that I'm looking for another company, maybe I'll find out their all the same? Who knows, I'm going to keep an open mind. One thing I've read that I have found to be true. A good attitude will go a long way, no matter who you drive for. I've tried to hold on to mine, and it got me through a lot of rough patches. Good luck, I've tried to be as honest as I can.

Supper Raven and trucker43 Thank this.

That's unbelievable! Paul, you have the patience of a Saint. There's no way that I would've stayed somewhere being treated that way for $400 per week. However, I commend you for your persistence and showing the company that they weren't going to get that money out of you for breaking your contract.:biggrin_25519:

If you haven't already done so, go get your endorsements for doubles/triples & HAZMAT. Then go to work for a good LTL company. Even at the bottom of the pay scale, you should get close to making $400 in one run. On top of that, you won't have to be out for three weeks unless you choose to run teams. Good luck to you at your next job!

I truly do not understand why you would do this. I understand that sometimes we do need to just have a good integrity. But the amount of money you lost does not justify the amount of cost that you would have paid had you obtained your CDL training on your own.

There comes a time where people need to realize that everything in life is negotiable. If people stopped allowing themselves to be paid like this then they would have to do better. I know how much money I pay for anything to be shipped and I know that as a consumer I am paying the trucking companies large amounts of money every year. I would rather MY money be going more in the pockets of the drivers than the management. But so long as the drivers allow this crap then what can anyone do?

400 per week is not enough to live on in any persons world. My 20 year old daughter makes more money than that working for tripple A answering the phones and dispatching tow trucks for stranded motorists.

I can earn 400 per week by taking care of just 3 full time toddlers in my daycare each week.

    Drivers need to unite.

Man... I hope you guys do better on your second go round than you did on the first.

You took a 20K hit to gain $4500 in tuition money????

The 20K was what "more" you could have made with a decent company.

Anyways...we all have to learn...Good Luck.

OH!!! And start listening to Dave Ramsey...he gives some great finacial advice. Not investments mind you...just how to save and make money properly.
