OK great news, tentatively will be signing for a lease truck T-660 manana that has just 25 months left on the lease.
-
Yeah. You really needed your mentor for that, di'nt ya?
-
Well, my mentor sure poured it on like I'm some helpless kitten in a big world without his help. The 'help' he offered was to cover the downpayment for me to sign for his truck, buy half his tires, and kick back 10% of the profits to him from the truck every month.
Just a couple of phone calls confirmed what you had told me already, that I could do this thing on my own merits.
The truck that is available is one which I was able to sit inside a few days ago because it was unlocked and I noticed a little drip from the roof onto the dash during the rain. -

Oh...and make sure you get the service records for it. See what it's been in the shop for, when and how often. Count the PMs to be sure they've been done at the right times and when the next one's due.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Does this mean....you might actually listen and heed the advice Injun and some of us "old farts" with lease experience might offer?

That "drip"....was your old mentor climbing on what was to become your new truck while you were sitting in it....that drip was clear and not "yellowish" I hope!
Check the windshield seal...or if it's like my "pornstar"...the leak comes from where the "aerodynamic" top piece attaches to the cab roof. Get some clear bathroom silicone sealer (flexible type) and apply to the bolt covers.scottied67 Thanks this. -
I have been listening all along lol. I appreciate all the advice too. I was merely reporting what my mentor 'wanted' to do, I never said I agreed to it or would commit to it.
It is the T-660 with 25 months remaining on the lease. I suspect it was turned it due to the owner not being about to survive these tough times. I am happy to already know about the roof leak before signing because I can have them fix it.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
i'd hate to say it, but 25 mo. is a new lease. Find out how much you'll be paying for a down payment. if its $2900, then its a new lease, and you're not taking anything over. how many miles on the truck? if there are already 100k mi., then its a used truck. I agree with Injun, and get maintence reports on the truck BEFORE you sign the paperwork. and DO NOT SIGN anything till you get them. They are to disclose if the truck has been in a wreck or not, but they wont unless you go in armed with the information. you get 30 days to find anything 'wrong' and get it fixed, but once you sign the lease, if its a big ticket item that you find is wrong, sure they'll pay to fix it...but they'll take their time, and the whole time you're sitting not earning anything....and the truck payment/insurance is still going to be 'due'.
again, dont sign on the dotted line just to have something you can beat your chest for.
if you are taking over a lease, you should have the downpayment LESS whatever the previous leasing driver has already put in, along with their performance bond. If you've never spoke to the previous driver and 'made a deal' with them, then Swift/IEL is going to basicly look at you like a 'new' driver/lease on this truck. Also, if its a fresh lease, you can easily check if it has a fresh b-service or not. check the inspection placard inside the drivers side fairing. look at your mileage, and if its 30k higher on the placard than your odometer....then its coming off a recent b-serv. again...indication that the truck is a repo, and you're signing a NEW lease, not a 'take over'......BOLscottied67 Thanks this.
