that might be true but long as I have the legal amount of chains and cables then I will be good to go long as they are not requiring us to throw level 2. But I know the pass is clear I just need them to avoid the fines
Where are you

What CDOT posts on the cotrip.org website and what OOIDA will tell you are great, on paper on the screen. The real world, well, that's a whole 'nother story. CDOT told OOIDA and on the website that you only need chains (finable) on a stretch of I-70 in the Mtn's. The reality is, I've seen Limon and Fruita stop drivers who aren't obviously carrying chains and give them a warning that the chain law is in place. Keep in mind, there are 3 dozen chain up locations in Colorado and 10 of them are on the Eastern plains, 3 of them are on I-70 East of Denver.
I've watched CSP stop drivers many times who are only running cables on Vial and turn them around and send them back to the bottom, on days when the roads aren't that bad, but code 18 (chains for everyone) is in place.
It's kinda like my earlier comment about 4 singles. When Code 18 is in place, Colorado requires 4 singles (all 4 outside drive tires) only, very rarely do I do that, and when I do, it had better be some serious conditions or my ATC had better have been engaging while I was still on the flat. I carry 3 complete sets of singles, so far this winter I've chained 13 times, I've only ran 4 singles twice, once because I spun out before I put the first set on, then spun out again with them on, and the chain law wasn't even in place. The other time was because I had a hunch that I was gonna need them, my hunch was right. BTW, I've also spun out with 4 singles on and blocked the road. -
Haven't ya'll beat this chain law to death by now?
I'll put my 2 cents for what it worth....I thru all my chains out of the truck and hung them on two trees for the cows to walk under 3 years ago and stopped going to Colorado in the winter time. (end of sarcasm but true story)

Indianapolis, IN.
Made my delivery. No empties so since I didn't have to drop an empty trailer off I went directly to the hotel instead of the terminal to start my 34.
Blessing in disguise, too. The load they wanted me to do (that I didn't have hours for) was going to Canada. -
Ampride T/S in Chickopee MA - good restaurant here. Have to see if I can wheedle my way into getting unloaded early tomorrow.

Olympia Washington. Just got empty and taking a reset. Biggest highlight of the day was watching this Prime driver beat the dog piss out of this Swift driver for hitting his truck.
