I've had mine muted since the day I bought it.
-
They have this really neat thing on the GPS called a volume control.. just mute the voice.
Yes I have a truck gps and my road atlas. Neither is perfect. Yes my truck gps tells me where the rest areas and truck stops are.. low clearances and weight restricted roads, hazmat lanes and even where the weight stations are
This debate will go on as long as the Windows/Unix debate.. -
that's why god invented a volume knob. dudette... it's obvious that your an old school kind of gal and at this point i bet you really don't even need road maps much anymore...and i respect that. use them, don't use them, it's up to each guy to figure it out. but i will say this. it's exactly those kind of stereo types that make GPS units so taboo with truckers. the GPS will do exactly what you set it up to do. it will have as much information as you choose to program into it. and it doesn't have to be a "trucker's" GPS. that was the point of this discussion was to tell guys to be in control of their GPS... not the other way round. i think their like dirty little secrects amongs truckers and i think they all rely on them a lot more then they let on. maybe I'm the only one that's ever actually read a manual to one that gives me more confidence in them. admittadly i'm very comfortable in the computer environment. it doesn't mean i blindly follow them it just means i'm used to getting around their short comings. and for the record i don't like the talking either...i turn it off.Last edited: Mar 7, 2011

First off . . . it's dude-ette!
See that little pic up by my name?
You prefer to use GPS I prefer not to. What's the big deal? I have a very good sense of direction, so don't really feel the need for a GPS. My oldest son on the other hand . . . well, lets just say that he is directionally challenged.
I am medicineman Thanks this. -
dudes/dudettes... yes... what if you loose signal? i don't like it talking to me! what if? what if? yes their not perfect... none of it is. can an atlas tell you there is an accident ahead? can an atlas tell you if the road is snow covered? of coarse not. that's not the point. the point is... IF you want to use a GPS then this is a good way of approaching it. it's not the end all of navigation... it's just another tool. use it or don't use it. and again. did any of you notice i called it a "Planner" not a "GPS" the GPS function is to recall the rout you have "planned" ahead of time. you still have to use common sense good judgment. and yesssss you still have to refer to your atlas

i wouldn't possibly try to tell some one with such obvious experience a better way of doing things... I'm just a newbie. what could i know?
-
Pssst. Your not winning here.. dude is a dudette...
Now drop the debate.. you will not win.. -
i know.. i might as well be discussing 18sp vs auto... but i can't help myself... save me....
i can't help myself. -
It's a trucker thing! We like to argue!

Someone around here has a sig line something like 'Arguing with a trucker is like wrestling a pig in mud . . . eventually you realize they like it!'
