    I hate to open this can of worms again--but if anyone is wondering where some of the us vs them(new driver-old driver starts) here it is!
    Hey I have no problem with your GPS or whatever you want to use--but please do not insult me by trying to tell me what has to be done or why you need to drag my old ##### into the 21st century. Then make it worse by explain how your gps works and how easy it is to use. You use it and enjoy it.
    By the way-in the time it took me to read your post--I already--checked the one or two things I wasn't sure of on my trip--fueled--filled my thermos and I'm 5 miles down the road.
    Just my $.02:biggrin_25512::biggrin_25512:

    wasn't my intention to insult you. i guess because of my age i take offense to guys my age referring to me as a newbie. I've driven everything but 18s for more than 30 years and being the new guy some times doesn't sit well with me...

    Yep....I have to join in a bit, myself. Sure, GPS may be the "new wave", but I am more comfortable using a "hard copy" to get my routing. I am very comfortable with a computer, too...I've built several......but that doesn't mean I have to use one in every aspect of my life. There are some things I find that are just as easy to do "the old fashioned way". I've had jobs before that "went digital" in the respect that everything had to be entered into a computer. To tell you the truth, it was a lot easier just writing down what was needed other than navigating through a bunch of hoops to get the same job done.

    Myself i take advantage of the truck gps,but i use it against the map as well as the companys directions etc.
    I never take one way over another but gps is one of the many tools to check with.
    Yes i haven't seen my 1st complete year but do know its smart to take advantage of all the tools to get the job done.

    to answer your question, "plastic or paper", i will go plastic, and buy the laminated version. it'll last a very long time over the paper version..

    nothing beats an "old stand-by"...

    Irondog, LaBubba and Logan76 Thank this.

    Jack has one of those trucker GPS things, and it's fun to see how it does against his own routing. Overall, he likes having it in his arsenal of routing tools... unless he's running north Jersey/NYC area. There it gets easily confused with local lanes, express lanes, and frontage roads so it gets turned OFF!

    I love my laminated atlas, but I am one of the few here that HAS to use a GPS sometimes, these gas well companies only give me GPS coordinates in Latitude and Longitude so im bound to atleast using my gps to figure what pad ill be going to.

    Common sense PLUS a cheap GPS will do you wonders. I did it five years without a GPS and survived, however some customers have no idea where they are let alone the ability to give a truck driver directions and then of course you have the customers that could care less if you find them or not and the ones that don't answer the phone. I like to be as self-sustaining as possible, just tell me when to be there and I'll be there an hour early. Just don't waste my time....ooops off topic.

    I like an ETA, miles driven, and miles to destination at my fingertips.
