Once again you newbreaders and your ignorant mouths is proving these posts about you young drivers are true and correct. I realize that your to stupid to figure it out, so i will spell it out for you, i know i will be wasteing my time with you, but here it goes. When us old timers were young back in the day we where raised in a different enviorment and had a better up bringing than you have. We where brought up to respect our elders and learn from them. We were told to keep our mouth shut and our ears open.Thats how you learn hands on.And make your job easier to learn. We were taught to be helpfull to others out here in trouble, thats why back in the day you would see 5 or so trucks pulled over to help one driver out and to be civil and respect each other as humans. Respect as a human being is one thing. Respect as a truck driver is earned, never given. Now you can respond to my post with all the stupid you can muster up.

Let me help you...*sharpening my red pencil*...but I find no fault in the OP's post...just took a little time to soften the edges...

However...in the future when you don't perfectly punctuate, misspell, scatter your thoughts....I WILL POUNCE!

For that is what I am best known for here on TTR...besides hijacking that is!

    School is IN!

There you go...that wasn't so hard now was it? Hope you understand the "gist" of his experience...I know I do!

    RECESS TIME....SCHOOL IS OUT!

    It is a job...as well as...a lifestyle!

Being gone from your home for any extended length of time, be it 1, 2, or 3 weeks and more...is not the same as "the job at home". It not only is a lifestyle for the driver, but for his/her family as well. How many other professions can lay claim to the worker being gone for such a length of time...besides the military?

It is much easier now than it was 16 years ago when I started in long haul. "Back then"...(now keep your feathers down youngsters, those are just words!)...we didn't have cell phones or internet to keep in touch with family. We had to get to the truck stop, and use the long distance "savings card" and talk to Mom and the kids while we ate our meal....phones were right on the counter and at most every booth...and there weren't too many fast food spots to "get a quick bite".

As far as work ethic? There is a huge difference in the "work ethic" of many new drivers coming into the industry. For many, they are just satisfying the unemployment requirement of "getting a job"...it isn't so much they really wanted to drive a truck, but it was the only thing they could get. They will be gone as soon as they can find something else for sure.

    To the original poster:
20-30 years ago most truckers took dope to stay awake because they were maintaining 3 logbooks. They were running over the innocent public left and right killing and maiming. Driving 100 mile an hour, wasting fuel and national resources, why do you think the companies want 'new breed' truck drivers now-a-days? YOU Old Timers brought this down on US all-- the tight crack down with electronic logs, and getting just the right amount of fuel optimized, governed truck speed limiters, drug/alcohol testing, medical examinations etc. To sit there and blame it on the new truck drivers is totally disingenuous.

Put my vote in the "Lifestyle" as opposed to "Job" box. Most jobs you will work 8 hours and have 16 hours to yourself. Trucking OTR, nope, drive 10-11 hours and babysit your truck/ load the remaining 14-13 hours.

Would you say cowboys of the old west were just doing their j o b herding a bunch of cows up to market or would you say it was a lifestyle? How bout the mountain men who trapped for beaver then brought them back to St Louis-- job or lifestyle? The sailors on Magellan and Columbus' ships, job or lifestyle? It's not just a job, it's an adventure.

"Most" truckers took dope? Sorry, dude, not to burst your bubble, but I've never met one who did, and I've known plenty of people close enough to know their personal habits.

    That's a pretty unbased generalization, I'm thinking.

Us vs them...........come on man. Instead of putting eachother down, why dont we stand up for eachother?

I mean come on....When was the last time an old timer opened up a door for a kid with a flat billed cap? Maybe if old timers showed some respect towards the younger drivers, maybe the younger drivers will think it was nice of them to respect them for no reason other than being a human being and maybe just maybe, that younger driver will show respect back.

    Ya think?

We should all stop looking down on eachother. We all go through the same issues out here on the road. So maybe we should be nice and thoughtful to everyone. Even those who may look and be different than us....

    just a thought...
