Well if the 907 still exists then there is still hope! :biggrin_25525: People have to retire some time.

    # Rug do you mean to say that it is hard to get home to Denver, or that home time is low on the priority list of the DMs here in Denver. Because I will be splitting my home time between Denver and OK and I dont really care about getting cut short or getting in late to Denver but going into home time to OK will be very important to me, since that will be when I visit with my kids.

I fully intend to meet face to face with my DM and express exactly that to them, after we are assigned to each other. I would even skip home time in Denver if it meant getting to OK on time and for a full 36-48 there.

And what do you mean coercion on other matters? What kind of coercion on what matters? Asking drivers to run unlawfully? Threatening them with messing with home time? Giving sh**ty loads if the driver doesn't toe the line?

Edit: I heard that you can switch your home terminal without chaning your home address, is this true? This might be a way to solve the problem if you cannot find a DM at your home terminal that you "groove" with.

So tomorrow is my last day at my old job. I'm a little nervous about not having a job. I start Orientation on the 2nd. I hope there are no unforeseen bumps that might keep me from getting on with Swift.

I have the choice to stay in the hotel or to stay at home during orientation what is you guy's advice on that?

Wanna sleep in a room with a total stranger?

Just be early for orientation. Make sure of the times.

I don't mind sleeping in a room with a total stranger, makes it easy to be friends lol.

So here I am 10 more days until orientation, and I have about 20 days worth of stuff to do. I'm getting everything packed up and moved out of my house, the worst part of that is I have to put my stuff in storage, the best part is no more rent!!.

Any way so I'm getting everything together for orientation, the packet says bring all legal docs, bring pad of paper and a pen, and clothes and bedding in case you are sent out with a trainer right away.

What should I bring that is not on the list? I know we have had a bunch of drivers go through orientation on here lately so chime in folks.

    Keep it 'tween the ditches.

It's been over 2 years since I drove a big truck, and no one wants to take a driver who's been out of the seat that long with out a refresher course. Except Swift of course and may Schneider (although I don' t know that for sure since they never called me back after putting my app in). Another reason is that I wanted to go with a big company because I need to be able to take my home time in Oklahoma once a month to see my young'uns, and Denver the other weekend to see my other family. Swift's freight base makes that possible to do reliably.

But...I did ask if I could get into the flat bed division, and they told me that they were not hiring for that division in Denver. I plan on asking again, and then again until I get a different answer. I loved flat bedding it was an entirely different animal than dragging a van.

So tomorrow I start orientation. I got a call from the orientation gal over here in Denver Friday to confirm everything and she said that the first day was pretty much a half day then a full day Tuesday and another half day on Wednesday. She also said that she will set up a DOT physical and a driving test. I also confirmed that I will start out making .32cpm since I have prior experience.

Has any one here seen an experienced driver get a truck right out of orientation? Or is it mostly general practice to send every one out with a trainer for a week or so? I don't have a problem going out with a trainer, I am just wondering what the next few weeks will look like.

It also sounds like a few drivers are sitting and waiting on trucks, is this something that happens a lot? Does Swift ever run run a driver needing a truck with a driver that has a truck between terminals so they can get into a truck? Seems like that would be an easy way to get drivers to areas that have trucks if their home terminal doesn't have any available.

I went to orientation in April 2010, two of the experienced drivers there got trucks on Thursday and went out and made money right away. Of course I and others had to wait for mentors but when I came out of that trucks were available right away. Something seems to have changed in just a few short months since I came on because trucks seems to be in short supply. I teamed up in January 2011 for about a month, quit, and tried to come back as a company driver they said it was a two week wait for trucks. So I signed a lease lol.

I hope its not a two week wait for a truck. Any one have an idea why the long wait? Are they moving drivers around to grab trucks from other terminals?

    scottied67 Thanks this.
