Well I start school in Fort Worth TX and April 11th. I went threw Driver Solutions and going to be hired by USA.
I was going to go with Swift but after doing some research about the company I decided that USA would be better for me.
I haven't seen to-many bad post about USA; and was wandering if anyone here went to the Fort Worth C1 School? I'm not looking for complaints about the lodgingI just want to know what to expect while at school and then working with USA afterwards.
I recently went down to the Oklahoma DMV where I live and took the written tests just to see where I was at. I missed 1 on all 3 so I think I should be OK in Texas. The test are about the same arnt they?
I'm starting School April 11th

well I just got back from C1 in Fort Worth. Got my CDL and starting Orientation May 2nd.
The School in Fort Worth wasn't to bad; the instructors are pretty nice and easy to get along with. I got my CDL on the second day of the second week I was there after that there is just a lot of standing around. But I went there to get a CDL and I came home with one so I can't complain much. I will tell you this if you go to this school you need to be prepared to take all of your writtin test the second day you are there. There isn't any class room instruction at this school with the exception of log book and map's. What i learned at this school is how to back up, double clutch and float the gears and that's about it. But I do have a CDL now.
As for the hotel. The picture they have of the place on the driver solutions web site is total false. They show a sparkling swimming poolnope no pool. They advertize coffee pots in all rooms NOPE so I asked the manager he told me not for C1 people hmmmmm ok so i bought one at wallmart then they tried to take it from me. If they have them in other rooms why cant C1 students have them? I asked. Then i figured it out. They also advertize free continental breakfast and coffee. Nope not for c1 students. C1 students have to pay $3.00 and it sucks basically it is 3 day old donuts.
Now don't get me wrong I know I didn't go there for vacation but I hate being treated like a second rate person and that is the way c1 is treated at that place.
The rooms where clean how ever.123456 Thanks this. -
Good Luck !!!

Glad you got your CDL and good luck with orientation. Hopefully you will get a good trainer that will get your hours in quickly and safely and one that lets you back up as much as possible, you can never have to much practice!
USA seems to be pretty good at weeding out the "bad" trainers, but there will always be a couple bad ones here and there. You should learn a lot while on the road with your trainer, as you probably didn't learn much about how to do your job on the road there as C1 are only there to get you your CDL. -
Can anyone tell me what to expect during orientation? Other that a ton of paper work.
-
I went to orientation in Dayton in 09, so things might have changed, but it really wasn't bad. LOTS of paperwork, short classes on logging how USA wants it done, Q-com lesson, USA policies, lots of smoke breaks, etc, etc.
One thing I found interesting is that they waited til you got to orientation to verify your employment history. Several guys got sent home for putting false info on their apps.
Overall, it was pretty laid back. Please keep updating the thread, I really enjoy reading others experiences.
Oh, and they'll try to sell you on the whole per diem ponzi scheme, just say no!goodchoice10 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the reply joeycool.
Well I went thru Driver Solutions to get hired. They must have called my last employer 3 times. He called me to ask why they where calling so much LOL. So when I get to orientation is he going to be subjected to more phone calls or will they use Driver Solutions verification?
What is this per diem thing? -
USA will still have to verify your work history, I think they just send them a fax to fill out and send back.
Per diem is basically a way for companies to give their drivers tax free income, usually a few cents per mile that is untaxed. You will take home a few dollars more every week, but end up losing in the long term. Also, some companies charge a small fee for "administering" per diem, and USA is one of them. The fee comes out of your pay. Here's a really informative thread about per diem;

Interesting point on the per diem thing. I am currently participating in that program but will be changing my election after reading that thread. Wow, glad I read that, makes perfect sense.

Be ready to learn on the run......and prepare yourself to lower your expectations. That's the fact of the matter, your learning will really start the day you take control of your own truck and receive your first load assignment.
