Be honest now... you take a lane to take one out...

Safety directors listen closely to your words, both written and spoken. Then they will use it against you if they can to charge a preventable. They ask you a series of questions in a friendly tone but you should make sure have your game on now.
How fast were you traveling?
Was it dark out?
Did you see the deer before you hit it?
Answer: At the speed limit or less.
Answer: Yes I saw the deer when it leaped out in the road path in front of the truck. If you say 'no' they got you for 'driving faster than your headlights' believe it or not.
Answer:The last one is a typical setup question. Answer yes or no and boom you are guilty. You did not hit the deer remember, the deer hit you.Working Class Patriot, Pumpkin Oval Head and Nightfall Thank this. -

The deer hit you. Where I drive the deer are almost tame. I #### you not, they let us use the road.

They are almost like cattle, serious herds of them in areas. We know their feeding times, we stop on the road and they galivant across at their pace. It almost funny.....till that stray one gets your truck.

In Ontario as far as car ins. is concerned my story will always be that the deer hit me
that way my premiums aren't affected
But when it comes to a commercial vehicle who knows -
I was told by my school, Swift, JB Hunt that if a deer jumps in front of you do not swerve out of the way hit it because it will cause less damage then if I hit some one or swerving to the side of the road. This was back in 03.

I got a deer in PA earlier this month. It was dark, rainy, and I was going 55 mph. It was on I70/76 where there is construction. The deer a larger one, and a slightly less large one leapt in front of me about 20-30 feet, I began to brake, it appeared as if it was going to cross to the other side but then it just stopped and tried to turn around or something. I am assuming it wasn't expecting the concrete construction jersery wall that was on the right side blocking the shoulder. I hit it at 40-45.It bounced off my front right corner, went down, and drug between the guardrail (which was about 6" off the shoulder line) and the truck, went under the drive tires with a big shudder, and I didn't find a safe place to pull over until many miles down the road.
A large scratch along the front corner, side of the steps, gore on the nuts of the steer tire, a rather long scratch in the fuel tank, and a completely dented from front toward the back wheel of the front drive tire that had to be replaced as well as the tire itself.
If they put that as preventable I will see them in court! -
About halfway through this post I was thinking>> "this guy must know something about deer whistlers"..
And he's right on saying deer whistlers need installed correctly, but he didn't explain why..
Truth is they don't do anything when installed properly, at least not for running deer off the road.. But this one driver I know runs alot of backroads, he worried about hitting deer to the point he put a set on each front fender..
He didn't read the directions which way they went & put his on backwards.. Turned the wrong way those things call deer up like using a dog whistle on a pitt bull..
He headed out of Wal-Mart parking lot feeling a little better about his odds not bending his chrome bumper, but when them whistlers started working deer came out of the ditch from everywhere.. Like suicide bombers they rammed his truck from every angle till it was completely totaled..
johnday and scottied67 Thank this.
