if you did not see it with your own eyes or hear it with your own ears, don't invent it with your small mind and share it with your big mouth.

So if no-one was speeding in a work zone and EVERYONE was maintaining a safe/appropriate following distance then how did this all happen? 1 or 2 trucks okay, but 7 or 8 involved?

I came through there some time last week. Probably day before or day after accident. Traffic backed up for miles due to big truck stalled on the roadway. Talked to another driver who told me traffic has been comming to a stand still for a long time at that spot for one reason or another. No excuse for rear ending anybody regardless.

Did they ever find out why the vehicles in front stopped? I know technically the drivers tailgating are at fault but sometimes if you are leading a pack like that it's best to look out for the guys behind you.

One night I just about got run over because a truck in front of me decided to stop in the road, then finally move to the shoulder with not so much as a turn signal, flashers, or a word on the CB.

Just something to think about; if you had even more room in front of you than you claim you had, you could have slowed down over a longer period of time and the tailgating driver behind you might have taken notice and avoided the collision with you.

There is a reason some of us make it through a whole career without ever being involved in a crash.

Not meant to provoke you nucsgt11, just something for everyone to consider.

    Be safe.

    Great advice.

Drivers were blaming newbies for this accident as soon as it was posted. I swear, blaming noobs for all of trucking's problems is a reflex for most experienced drivers.

Well sure! Once YOU get to be an experienced driver, you need someone to blame it on...

Lessee... who's around? The dog? Nah!!

    Another experienced driver? Nah!!!

The newbs? Yeah, that's it! :biggrin_25523:

The reason he stopped suddenly with NO brake lights, I would think, is because he was 3 feet from the truck in front him and never had time to hit the brake pedal before he smacked the rear end of the next truck.

Did you receive a citation for following too close? I hope not because that's considered wreckless driving, just a notch below a DUI.
