Marten Transport, the good and bad

Alot of the guys running western regional get home every 10 days or so and then get a couple days off. Doubtful you will get home every weekend. If you live less then 75 miles from the terminal you can't take the truck home. You can expect 1,800-2,500 miles per week.

 

Nice people but they do not give you miles ..its a hit miss on weather you get home on time you have to stay on top of them or nothing will get done .there trucks are awsome as long as you take care of them .they feed the railroad .they do pay you for anything you do for them .I liked them just didn't give me any miles .I work for tyson food now pay is better .get you home when you want to but you have to live near there plant....

 

They are saying that western region will avg 2500 per week @38 cents per mile, how close to the actual is that statement?

 

has anyone seen the article about marten in this months truckers news. they interviewed tim norlan about how the company is making life so much better for the driver. he went on about about good old fashion midwestern values(guess he forgot his boss isn't from the midwest) and how they are giving out a .01 a mile raise and because they never cut pay that means this is a real raise. so to all of you company drivers giving .03 a mile back to them for perdiem that you got no say in remember that was not a cut in pay even though you don't get it back. all of the paid miles lost to rail and replaced with short regional runs and therefore lowering your overall annual income remember that you did not see a cut in pay, this is the logic of the poeple in charge of your life at marten. i'm of the belief that now matter how it goes down if at the end of the day you have less money in your pocket you took a pay cut period. if all of the farmers in wisconsin could find a manuer spreader that could spew crap as far and fast norlan did on this article thay would all own one tomorrow just for the time it would save them. good job tim, now go kiss the ata's ### some more.

 

Don't forget when you do get a longer load, you get paid less per mile for it. Sure glad they didn't cut our pay...... dishonest #######es.

 

my new employer on aveerge has no runs less than 1,200-1,500 miles, no perdeim of any kind, no rail frieght, no regioanl. No driver # no locked doors betwen me and the dispatchers. No after hrs to deal with.
Extra stop pays progressivly. Just finished a 3100 mile trip, and now headed on a 2200 miler from the east coast to Idaho.
The stress level is nill
I agree Tim Norlan has go to be the biggest lieing perosn in the trucking industry. To here him spew hs bs on the nemo show makes me want to puke.
And the Facebook page is full of nothing but cheerleaders and ### kissers. Who all swear marten is still the best to work for. Yet when some one posts a complaint, for morst time, those are removed the next day.
I'm thankfull to this site for giving drivers a chance to comment on such topics.

 

My lady and I ran teams for those scum. Biggest bunch of lieing bastiages in the industry. We would get to Ontario for a maintenance. It would take all day to get a PM done. Since we were out of there before 7 PM, we couldn't get a room. So, both of us up all day, and then expected to head to Salinas for a load that was supposed to be picked up 4 hours before the service is done. Then, they lie about the place being open for 24 hours (NOT!!) which I knew better. We got hit with a service failure because they wouldn't listen and forced us to accept a load that we knew for a fact we couldn't do. On the rare occasion that we did get some miles, and ran out of hours, we would get told that it is impossible for a team to run out of hours. Funny, but my calculator says there are 192 hours in 8 days. Out of that, we can only drive for 140. WTF are we supposed to do for the other 52?!?! Also, when stuff was scheduled too tightly, we would get a message that as a team, our truck should never stop. I replied that I am glad that we don't need to eat, fuel or take a S*** and can run non stop. They would constantly cheat you on detention, always get you home late, treat you like a slave and lie through their teeth to you.

As to Nemo, I informed him of a lie in one of the commercials from Marten. The next day, that commercial was gone. Dave and Tim Norland had a blowup and Dave will not be on with him any more. Tim Ridley used to be the recruiter in Atl (Forrest Park) and after Tim Kohl took over, became the terminal manager. That didn't last at all because Tim Ridley refused to screw over the drivers. Now, Tim Ridley is living large as the director for Sirius XM trucking channel and filling in for Nemo on his time off and on Martens visiting days. I have all the respect in the world for Tim Ridley. Glad to consider him a friend.

I can not stress how strongly I make this suggestion. STAY THE FUZZ AWAY FROM MARTEN!!!!!!!!!!! They will screw you over every way they can!!!

 

Marten is a railroad feeding. Company there are doing the samething jb-hunt did years ago. And that would be ok. But they are screwing over the driver s. So anycompany that uses rail do not work for them ..A company that uses railroad its a drivers only real job killer ..that's who making all the hour of service rule changes to us..they all making it better for the rail ...

 

And they say , it's the way of how trucking will be.( not at my new company)
Well then if so, pay the drivers accordingly. With out foreced perdeim, or sitting weekends.
Last Friday between Bakersfield and Kingman, i saw 45 east bound Marten trailers,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, being pulled by BNSF Locamotive.. Translate, 45 Marten Drivers probly wondering why they are stting, and where are the miles at.
The only way some of thier drivers are getting , miles, is because they are either on the knees at the foot of thier dispatchers, or bent over in front of management. If not, explain why some drivers are getting good loads, others are stuck doing short overniters, for weeks at a time.

 

had given three years of my time wish they could of been my last company to work for!not a job hopper if i go to an employer i will give them at least a whole year ,,time is short but i will not have more than 1 page of past employers on application!! anyway,,gave them a 2wk notice dropped of equipment departed nicely,no hitches ..their type of operation was not suitable to me anymore ..seems they love hauling short low miles freight =higher rates =low miles to truck and lower expense.and seems they love putting loads on rail also =low cost=higher profits..seemed as they had become a short haul specialist..well that is my opionion and i had no quarrels with them they'll still be a steady company
